I did buy the Tamiya springs to use with the S2, but found them to be too long.

The 53333 set or the 53440 set?
I found 53333 to be short enough, but actually so short that I couldn't get enough droop at some ride heights.

Lol Great, well my tamiya set will be here today so I'll find out. The associated springs are just over 1 inch long and the rear ride height is at 5mm, the front end on the other hand is at 6.5. The Tamiya short springs are .8 inches long so hopefully they will work.

what is the biggest pinion and the smallest spur gears you can fit on a S2? (48 pitch)

I am still having a problem with the diff, the issue seems to be the o'rings swelling. I tried the tamiya ones and it felt fine for a day on my bench, the 2nd day i gave it a spin and its super tight again. I just took it apart and they did the same thing as the stock ones. Any tips on how to cure this?

I was able to use the original orange ones with no problem even with swelling.

I had to dremel the o ring slot deeper on both sides, so that once it swelled it would seal.

A grinding bit with low speed and patience will get you there.

Can anyone tell me how the S2 would do as an all-around basher? I don't plan on doing any competitive racing but I'm looking to buy a touring car to mess around with.

I've owned cars from X-ray, AE, HPI, and TOP. I find the quality and performance for parking lot racing to be on par with all those cars. So for an all around basher I don't think you'll have any issues.

TQ Racing (TQRacing(dot)com) has them in stock, $120, with free shipping. And they stock spares. Plus, there are a number of other cars whose spare parts will work (Xray T3/T4, Spec-R R2, possibly even the RGT R2 as well).

Check out the Spec-R R1 thread for a lot more info.
Petit RC for setups.

I am using Nick Keown's (Valk) S1 setup and it handles very well.

I was reading on r1. And it came with a shock tool. Does the s2 come with that ?. I did find a really good post from Valk on r1 thread.

im pretty sure the shock tool comes with the s2. on one of the plastic parts trees. i will say it has limited use esp if you drill out the caps like most do. it also doesn't hold the tamiya turnbuckles we upgrade to very well.

in addition to the parts for sway bars, i use yokomo springs and like them. blake uses xray short springs from a t4 and they work well for him. i run yokomo blue/black or blue/blue in most situations but he runs xray 2.5/2.3 and has a very competitive car. as for setup, the kit setup is pretty good, but i have a few r1 settings on petit that work wel on ashphalt and carpet alike. the biggest difference in my current setups is wider everywhere, and short camber links with lots of angle and softer springs.

s2 has lots of flex so it will stick to ashphalt quite well and is more forgiving with setup than an r1 id say. i usually check out what marc reinhard does to his car for the ets when figuring out a carpet setup. i like to think i drive similarly to him and like how the car feels. thus my cars went from fairly safe to super aggressive and rediculous ha.

Thanks Valk. I'm from regina. And hope to race in a few wcics this year. So I take it that drilling a hole into the shock caps to get zero rebound would be good. I have been in our rc club for 3 years. But only race every second weekend in only winter months. So I'm still a beginner working to get better. Are you stI'll running serpent swaybar?
What size of batteries are you guys running? Would shortys work or not really?....so many things to buy....lol
