It didn't seem too bad. Then again, I was using Tribo. At an event like that, everyone was cutting their comm for each race, so it's sort of hard to tell.

Default Orion Core and Peak Hellfire

I just bought 1 Core, and 2 Hellfires. I've played with the Hellfires on the dyno some, got decent #'s but nothing special. Just starting to play with the Core. In my truck, the Hellfire seems great, but haven't ran it in my sedan yet.

Anyone find any tricks or good setups for these motors?
I'm running Trinity 4499's with Purple/Red springs on the Hellfire. About 29thou RPM, 124w power, 81avg power I think. That's on a Robitronics @ 7.5v

JeffC-

I centered the Brush Hoods on the Comm and am running the Peak 2221 Brush on the Hellfire. I drilled a hole in the brush just off center on the trailing edge of the brush. I use the Viper 115 on + and 135 on Negative. It is a pretty decent motor.
I am going to play around with 767 and 766 brushed and the 4499 brushes some more.

I also centered the brush-hoods (actually just checked them, they were already very good), and on one Hellfire I reemed the bushings. Still waiting for my reemer to come before I can do all my motors.

That Orion motors is pretty good, from what I read. A friend of mine got one and he did nothing to it and did OK with it. Reedy is coming out with a new motor (new design) in a few months, it suppose set the new standard for motors, can't wait.

Mike W,
I use the same spring combo with my MVP's but I think you have them around the wrong way(or have typed them wrong). I run...

135 deg on +
115 deg on -

Big Jim has suggested tuning the Hellfire/Core motors similar to the MVP. Eg, Cutting the brush width down/align brush hoods etc. Keep the Viper springs as I was told they are similar to the Red/Green Trinity combo.

On my Core, I just got 29.366rpm, 126.7w, 81.8w AVG, and 64.9%eff. Not too bad, but need to see how it is on the track soon. (Hopefully I can get out there next week.)

Since we don't know the actual numbers from both of your motors, we can only guess at the right gearing, but in general you should gear a P2K 2 a bit taller than the GM3(that's numerically lower), but not as tall as you would a P2K, so you might give a 31 or 32 tooth pinion a try, & see how the car feels with it.....

For the TC3 with the Fantom P2K2 72/30 Works well...

I race TC3 at small tight track and use 27/72 to gear p2k2.
If I run 28 pinion it seems loose acceleration at inside corners.
I might go for 26 depends on the layout.

I tried 30 once then motor was almost burnt.

i tried the 26t pinion this afternoon. acceleration was great. top speed is also good, but it doesnt matter because the straight is not that long. the comm and brushes are still in good condition after 5 battery packs. i think ill stick with this pinion, or go up or down a tooth after a few more experiments. thanks for the tips

yeah you would burn that motor if you gearing that way. The P2K2 is like the MVP so you have to gear it about the same. With that standard 72 spur use either the 25 or a 26 and you'll be in the ball park
