Default F Brush vs. 4499

Could someone pleas explain to me the difference between the F brush and the 4499? I put a set into a C0 27 this past weekend after doing all the other little tricks,i.e. centering the armature, aligning the brush hood, trueing the comm, replacing the bushings.

It runs completely different(better) than my other C027 with 4499's or was it just a cummualitive effect of everything?

Thanks

You failed to mention what springs your using? Did you run the same gearing?
Why would you change the bushings?
Anyway with "F" brushes Purple-Purple or Purple-Red worked very well. Gearing I believe was based on motor temp which was around 180F.
All those things you did are good but springs and gearing is critical when your running "F" brushes!
Just my $2

What he failed to mention was the application for the motor ( TC or 1/12th).

sorry fellas, still pretty new to all this.

gearing stayed the same at 35/100 in a TC4 on carpet with purple/purple springs for the "f" brushes and the other C027 had red/green with the 4499's as I had been told to do by a much more experienced racer. Motor temp I can only guess at, when I broke it had been run just over 2 minutes of 5 and by the time the main was done and i got the car back it was around 120.

I got the motor as part of a lot purchase and had just redone it since it had been used in a off road car, hence the bushing change.

Unfortunately, if you are running on carpet with foams, your gearing will change and it affects your rollout. May be better to list wheel diameter too or just list your rollout for feedback and questions. A 61mm foam tire will be much different than a 55mm.

Did it again, rubber tires(CS27's) which i think are around 62-63mm

Eric……the F brush and 4499 are two different brushes they both don’t appear to be the same compound. The F brush seems to deal with heat better then the 4499. Sometimes the F brush is faster and some times the 4499 is faster. The batches of brushes are so hit or miss sometimes that once you know you are in a good batch buy a bunch of that one and save them. You can’t really say that you can use an F brush or 4499 for that matter for more power or RPM because you can just as easily put a new set in and the motor is slower. Some people will swear up and down that one is better then the other but you need both and use which ever one at that time is working better in that motor. Both are great and are what are used 90% of the time in brushed motor racing......also dont forget that Hurricane offers the "Gold" brush that works very well as well.

Hi all,

i need some help requiring tuning a stock motor. i have just gotten a team orion advantage charger, am i right that this charger will tell me the amp draw from the motor? at what volts should i test the motor. what am i actually looking for? and then how can i improve on the results (or does it not work like this?)

changing springs, brushes, etc will improve motors performance, what do you guys recommend to gain more rpm?

thanks in advance

Quick question.

When gearing for the same track should you go down on pinions for a CO27 vs a Monster.

Thanks

I have always ran 1-2 teeth more on the Co27 then the monsters.

Thanks again Wallstreet.

Another question, Are you better off using a larger spur and smaller pinion or a smaller spur and larger pinion. I know the numbers would work out the same but I know there has to be some type of performance differences between the 2 ways.

Would you get quicker acceleration using a smaller pinion with a larger spur?

I have always been told that running the biggest spur gear that fits in your car is always the way to go .... However when running brushless... you run what ever it takes to make the correct rollout
