I tried the suggested timing and FDR on my F1 last night and experimented.

20º @ 3.0
20º @ 3.1
20º @ 2.9
25º @ 3.1
25º @ 3.0

The motor temp was about 140º~145º

The guys who were running Thunder Power motors were faster than me.
On the back straight they would just close the gap sloooowly…
In the infield, it didn't feel quick either. I just suck.

Hopefully, the motor will perform better in my Touring car on asphalt.

I Appologize Ed I should have said in advance that we haven't had enough testing time with 21.5, we also found what you found out today on F1. F1 Indoor carpet, you might have to try to get to 3.5 range to try.

Our baseline on timing also changed, last weekend the 13.5 sedans (carpet) were fast running 4.5 fdr 20deg, this weekend we ended up running 40deg timing at 4.5fdr. It was faster & good power all the way to the end.the suggested 20deg timing I gave you was based on our testing in 13.5 sedan, that completely changed today.

I think we are barely scratching the surface of what this motor can do In sedan where we have the most track time, we are still finding better setup almost every weekend.

any setup changes that you do, I recommend taking your time & always check temps regularly.

you can also email me if you have any questions.

20 degrees is a very conservative timing number. If your car is slow, don't be afraid to bump it up.
Timing can make a night and day difference; but be sure that you are using an R1 Wurks fan.

Not to sure if this motor is torque based or rpm based.

I would look at adjusting down a little on the timing to 10 degree and go up a few teeth to a 2.6, 2.5, ect.

Or timing up to 30 degree and keep the same 3.0 ratio.

Sounds like this motor is full of surprises. Second one ordered for a new buggy. One guy at our track was running a 17.5 in mod buggy and was pulling same lap times. I was also thinking to play around with motor timing and gears for TC when I get the chance. One other local guy I cant say his name finally switched to R1 after running other brand for years.

Here's a link to the opening race at Norcal hobbies. Ryan stated that the punch of the motor is incredible, yet the power band is very smooth, with incredible top end. He made one mistake at the first turn which put him towards the end of the pack, but he quickly gets towards the front of the pack and utilizes the R1 wurks powerband and pulls away from the rest of the pack.

This motor IS a game changer folks! I was hoping to have this as a lil secret for a lil bit, but looks like great news travels fast and the word has gotten out! Enjoy the all the R&D that Steve and his team have made into production
