I agree with leaving the controller as is, since the kid is already used to it.... I'm a lefty too, and use the right handed controller also without twisting my hand though ... It would be impossible for me to use anything else...

One of the best racers I have ever known drives exactly the way you describe.

That being said, it might be worth picking up a nice used M8 or M11 and swapping it around (they both are reversible) and see how he likes that. If he doesn't like it, you can always sell it again.

As a racer that has always struggled with wheel radios (I stay with sticks now) I say let him try as many options as you can.. buying a radio that is reversible lets you have both options and still have a good radio

I still would recommend a 4pks series. Get a used one and let your son at least try it. They are very comfortable and light with multiple steering wheel positions.
