Looking to get a car on road electric to play around with...any suggestions on what to buy or what to stay away from in the $200-$300 range??

For your driveway or for racing?
I started in my driveway with Tamiya TA02 and currently I have VBC D06.

I would suggest you start with the Associated TC-4 club racer or a Sakura
X sport touring car. Priced well below your budget. Once you buy electronics, body and wheels you will be in the 200-300 dollar range.

Sprint 2 flux

hpi quality and fit and finish is not great. Personally, since you will just be bashing in the parking lot, pick up a ff03 pro. They can be had for around 200 dollars, have the nice trf shocks, turnbuckles, etc. pick up a shell for 20 bucks, used motor system for 60, and a servo for 20 300! Bam! it is front wheel drive, but that makes it fun! you would need a radio though. Or…look for something used here in the forums. Stay away from belts, even on clean asphalt, they get chewed up easily.

I have had a Sprint 2 and a TC4.....with a Sprint you will chew thru belts and rear diffs due to rocks....even with mods listed on here and some self made deflectors/covers, rocks and belt cars just dont mix well.

I have chewed up 1 spur on my TC4 due to a rock.....but it has been much less of a hassle for the parking lot / road environment. I would try to find a shaft drive for that type of thing. For racing on maintained tracks I would go belt driven all day long, but not for random parking lots or roads.

Associated has the TC4 club racer in a roller so you will have to complete it...they also have the Apex which is RTR, but its a Thunder Tiger with new stickers, I would lean towards the TC4 myself.

the diffs on my sprint were a little "nochy", and had to be broken in for a bit.

Then you just need a battery, charger, body and pinion gear. It should easily come to less than $300.

Great price for a car that will can also be used should you decide to race.

Shoot I think i might need one. I have a sprint 2 sport and can't seem to justify the price of upgrading it to brushless (because the chassis is not great for drifting/racing).

$180.00 all you need then is a body and battery. and if you get keen its a great car for starting off at the track.
