Question, does the esc need power supplied from a battery or can the phone provide enough juice?

Generally if the Phone/device supports OTG it will provide enough power to run the app, etc.

I would like to compare programming the RS to playing the guitar. It may be easy if you are really familiar with it but the first time you strum that chord, you have to look at the placement of each finger. I don't doubt that Randy is right about what the product can do without the Hotwire, but for me I never have the confidence that I did it right just from buttons and beeps. I was happy with the performance of the unit out of the box, but I didn't mess with the drag brake or any of that until I got the Hotwire. Five years later and it is still a phenomenal device. Looks like a little Cylon stuffed into a box.
Thanks again Randy for the videos you have posted on YouTube. Without them I wouldn't know just how good the RS was.

Where did you pick up a cable? Was it a mini/micro, male at both ends?

First off, thank you team tekin. I appreciate the Option of being able to program my esc with my phone! I understand not starting off supporting discontinued products although I look forward to getting gen1 support in the future.

I ordered my cable for $2.50 from eBay. Just waiting on gen 1 support. I will test it out on some Gen 2 esc's at the track when I get it.

I have the Samsung note II with version 4.1.2. I will post my results when I can.

Has anyone tested the Samsung Note II

Here's the cable I ordered

Oh boy. I clicked on here thinking "oh, another app for IOS only." Imagine my surprise when I read that Tekin made this for Android. That's a Pure Win in my books. No more having to lug a laptop around.

I have a cable part number 9724 from Monoprice that'll work for this too.

Thanks Team Tekin!
