As competitive as our club is I guarantee 1700's would not cut it. We have guys already running the new 3300GP's and their runtime in mod is sick. In stock the amount of runtime provided by the newer cells, 3000smh, 3000umh, 3000hv's, 3300GP's hold their voltage much longer than the NiCad's thus giving you a disadvantage in such a competitive class that usually the winner's laptimes do not vary much more than within 2 thenths of a second every lap.

I agree with ya!
In our tests, as well, we found that 2400s will put out some faster laps, in the early stages of the race, but about halfway through the race they drop a bit while the 3000s just don't drop hardly at all (my fastest laps tend to be in the last 1/3 of the race).
At our raceway, 2000's work wonderful for 4 minute novice and intermediate races, but I, quite literally, lose almost a second per lap in the 5th minute. And this with very good 2000's that have been treated with lots of TLC.

At the carpet nat's this last year, I beat a schumacher factory driver with the same equipment as described earlier. Now, for the record, I do believe that you really can't run 1700's anymore for the 5 min. races,but I feel that a well maintanenced 2000 can do very well against some of the newer 2400 and 3000 cells. I also won't lie and tell you I'm not waiting for the new 3300's to hit. Some of my packs are 4 yrs. old (yes I race them and do pretty well) and need to be retired, I've gotten more than my monies worth out of them. By the timw I break down and by them,I'm sure 4200's will be well on their way!!--Al
