What brand pinions are you guys using? My motor has a 5mm output shaft so I'd like to know what would be a good choice. (I'm still new to electric)

I had a nightmare trying to find 48dp pinions with a 5mm shaft where I live so I ended up drilling out an Alu 3.2mm bore standard pinion. I'm lucky as I have access to a pillar drill at work so I drilled and reamed at 5.0mm and it's a snug fit on my 550 that will find it's way into my 747e eventually.

No prob, I figured you were tied up, besides I appreciate you helping me as much as you have already. I was gonna order today on ebay, but I called up my local Hobby shop and they had it in multiple teeth's, so I just picked one up today—perfect fit. I recall you having some difficulty finding one, if you need one just let me know, we can do the paypal thing and I'll pick it up and ship it to you.

Now that I have everything for the car, I'm debating whether to get a soldering kit or just letting my hobby mechanic do the soldering. I kinda like doing the work myself so I might just pick up the kit.

A good soldering iron is an investment. It'll always come in handy. Soldering is a bit of an art form but doesn't take long to master. Get a minimum of 60W preferably 80W to minimise the time you need to heat the solder joints. There are a few threads on "which solder iron is the best" so have a read of them first but most tend to pick a Hakko iron...

Has anyone run on 3S yet with a 550 size motor on a large outdoor track?
What pinion and gear did you use?

I'm running 3s on a 550 lRP motor with 27 pinion/69spur. Haven't ran it on a track but have on a wide open lot, and she is an absolute, and I mean an ABSOLUTE beast. And I have to give a shout out to Dan Vector helping me develop the car. He also recommended the LRP motor I'm running.

MY settings are pretty high even the brakes as I do speed runs mostly in short stints. I keep the brakes high because having real experience driving trucks with air breaks, I know how to pump brakes to slow down, and I found I can do the same with RC cars. But for track duty, I would lower the settings and monitor the temperatures.

The car is incredibly stable, so much so, I'm considering dropping a 4s in it.

And just for the record, this is probably one of the most underrated RC car kits out there. Serpent recommends 3s, I'm running 4s, 27t pinion 55t spur and at 1/4 throttle this thing is absolutely flying and planted. Even with the added weight, you don't feel it cause the car is so nimble and well designed.

Serpent showed their engineering prowl on this one guys, but for whatever reason, they just chose not to broadcast it...

Hey Evo. The car looks great! I'm still rocking my 2s setup with Reedy Mach 2 5.5t which is plenty quick enough for the track I run on. I will defo upgrade to an RX8 LRP 3s combo sooner or later lol. Just wish we had a class here as 200mm nitro is dying. Word on the street is that the national section here is going to have a 220mm GT 'e' class which this car would be an ideal base. So happy your enjoying the car Evo!
