Removal of Weights on CF Chassis
 

Hey guys, what's the best way to remove weights that are stuck on with tape from a carbon fiber chassis without causing damage?

Just pry it up with something flat. I use a butter knife since its nice and flat and not overly sharp. Then I use motor spray to get the leftover tape off.

Dental floss!

A piece about 18 inches long. Wrap it around the base of the weights where the tape is, like a noose. Pull on the ends of the floss and it will cut through the tape.

After that, to get off the half-thickness of tape that's left stuck to the chassis and to the weights (or whatever it is that was taped to the chassis), use the pad of your thumb. Starting at one edge, push your thumb down onto the edge of the tape, while still pushing, pull the pad of your thumb across the edge of the tape. The tape edge will start to roll. Keep working / rolling that edge with the pad of your thumb, into a little bigger ... and a little bigger roll until the tape is all the way off!

The beauty of this method is neither the chassis nor the removed component get scratched up at all.

If you heat up the tape with a heat gun or similar, makes it even easier too.

This is with foam tape right? I now use parma and 3m tape (the clear stuff) it works so much better. No crap left over comes off in one piece.

I just use a thin blade slice it off. Than remove the tape with motor cleaner......

I use a bone tool. You can get them at any body shop supply place for around $1.00 they are very handy. Won't scratch the chassis.

Yep, it is foam tape. Not the thicker kind used for electronics installation though.
