Back when brushless and lipo was relatively new, i saw guys run 2.5 turn touring car. Today on a big track (like the ROAR nationals at the Big Green Monster in Florida) they still might.

I just mounted up a Reedy Sonic 6.5 to my TCX and now I'm ready to have some fun and race with it. The average race track length that I'll be on is about 160ft with longest being 200ft!

Default TOURING SEDAN MODIFIED RACING!!

The most important part of racing mod is making sure the car is set up properly and making sure its in perfect working order because you are going to be a class where the highest turn motor is 5.0turn and the lowest as 4.0 turn which means you will be traveling at speeds up to 65 mph easy!! I've made 1/8th onroad nitro pan cars look slow its that fast.I run a trinity 3.5,5t modified motor and its a beast with my new HWNA 120A V3.1 speed control. .

Belt cars overheat mod motors too much, so 4.0t is really the lowest you can go... Shaft cars can run 2.5t motors and not burn them so much...

That is a interesting point, but it leaves me with one question. Why Freddy is running a 4.5 like everyone else at the ETS. The only reason almost no one runs a 3.5 or lower turn is they are powerful enough and when not put boost and turbo on.

Well I think you answered your question when you said he did like everyone else.... If you do the same as the belt guys with a shaft Car, you won't overtake them.... They are different drives and should be handled differently.....
Also, a correctly geared 2.5t/3.5t shaft car(ceramic bearings only) with slight boost will out accelerate a 4.5t full boost by a mile, specially on the bottom end, but you will have to find the right way to place ballast weights to combat wheelspin...
Also, if you don't practice with such power, you won't be faster than with a 4.5t boosted, and it will take time to get use to the new limits though...

For your first time running a 7.5, you will be happy. It has plenty of power to start off with. The TC6.1 can handle the motor too.

The bulk of Mod racers will run between a 4T and a 6.5T motor, with most running a 4.5T or a 5T.

Anything lower will limit tuning options, above limit speeds, so really like the other mod thread has suggested, your cheating yourself of part of the learning by going for anything outside of that unless you have a very good reason to do so.

My first outing in Mod recently and I used a 5T Nosram, and to be honest while it's quick, you do somewhat get used to the power fairly quickly, and beyond that it starts to teach you the throttle control you need in Mod right from the start.

Interesting that belt cars cant run really low turn motors.

in terms of the MI5 Chris Grainger runs a GM 4.5T with boost etc
seems to be serving him well, he is currently first at the BRCA Nats in Aldershot at the moment.

Id like to try a shaft driven high end car and see how different it is compared to belt driven, id love a awesomatix but so much money

Belt drive cars CAN handle low turn motors. Just majority of drivers feel they already have more than plenty of speed running 4.0-4.5T motors with boost, even pros.

Well, I've ran 3.5t (blinky) in a tc4 for a few races and could put my hand on the motor indefinitely after each six minute heat... No way to do that with a belt Car...
Now I'm building an Awesomatix A700ex with a 2.5t d3.5 motor and ceramic Bearings, and hopefully will test it soon to see if I can also hold my hand on that motor too..... It will be a while before I finish this Car: it's a whole new learning experience...

I'm not surprised you could hold your fingers on the motor in blinky.

Today I was running a Thunder Power 4.5 with 25deg timing on the can and my ESC set to give up to 55deg of boost with delay's etc. and after 5 mins I could also keep my finger on it easily.

Almost everyone I know of in Mod runs 4.5's

Talking

At that time the other belt drivers were cooking their 7.5t boosted motors though.... Maybe the software got better today, but back then it was a cooking class... I will try my hand at cooking my 2.5t motor/esc soon when I add boost to it....lol.... I've never seen a 2.5t boosted video before....
