I'm in the market for a new radio, I do some oval racing and on-road racing. What is your favorite radio for on-road racing?

Does the futaba 4pls have all of the needed features for on-road? I only race the blinky and VTA cars.

i use the sanwa mt4 now, by far the best radio i have used, good balance, very easy to use menus

did use futaba 4pl before i switched, the futaba isnt a bad radio but for me the mt4 suits me better

You can't beat an MT-4 when it comes the most bang for your buck.

I use an Airtronics MT4. Love it. Has everything I need, lightweight, easy to use and cost effective. I run mostly blinky 17.5 sedan but also have a VTA and a mod car.

With both the 4pls and MT-4 being in the same price range. What makes you choose one over the other?

KO Propo EX-1 KIY with the 3D drop wheel. Best radio if you have wide shoulders and your hands don't meet at 90deg. I find it very comfortable and light. Receivers are awesome small but expensive.

I had the same dilemma you did. I ended up going with the MT4 because of its smaller size. Also, you can get the Sanwa 92524 receivers which are relatively cheap if you have an arsenal of cars.

I thought I would use the telemetry stuff but I never got around to installing it. Also the MT4 using FHSS-3 receivers are "faster", but I don't see any difference in response time.

One drawback with the Airtronics transmitters, however, is that their receivers are pretty freakin' large when compared to some of its competitors. If you have a servo that mounts in an east/west position, it doesn't matter much, but if you have an older car that has the receiver mounted north/south, you might have to put the receiver on top of the servo, depending on what ESC you run.

I was able to fit a 92524 receiver along with a Hobbywing Justock and a Savox 1251 all on the bottom of an Xray T2. The larger RX-461 telemetry receiver is too big to mount on the bottom.

I started off with the spectrum dx3rpro thinking since it was the best thru had it would work. Even with the drop down wheel it was not great. So I bought a ko eurus and man was it night and day. With the 3d drop down wheel and trigger its the best radio I have had. The receivers are super small and fast. You can find some great deals on used ones. It has a great sturdy feel and endless settings in the radio. So many I don't know what half of them do.

I also have the Sanwa/Airtronics MT4. Awesome radio...fully featured yet simple interface, good ergonomically and 100% reliable. Can't be beat for the price.

Spektrum dx3R pro is very good, and the M12 has nothing to do with lapping people !!! Some do cheat though....

What's my radio and what I would recommend are 2 different things. My favorite is the Sanwa EXZES-X. What I would recommend is the Futaba 4pls. It has all the features you would need and the receivers are cheap.

When it comes to radios, the most important thing is how it feels in your hand. Almost all radios have the major adjustments, where the higher end ones may offer a little more. Personally, I use an Airtronics M11X. I have larger hands and my finger actually fits in the trigger, where it does not on a futaba. The newer KO seems like an awesome radio also, but very pricey. With airtronics I can buy the $100 top of the line receiver, or I can buy $49 ones, the M11x & M12 can be bound to either one. I would stay clear of radio post and spektrum. Also Airtronics and Sanwa are the same thing, just branded under different names throughout the world.
