Default how much braking should there be

I have a few older esc's. just recently I got back into playing with some tamiya mini coopers. well I have 2 older Novak esc's that when brakes applied they slow the car but not real fast. Now I have a new LRP esc that came with my new mini parts purchace (guy sold his whole lot but never ran the car). well when I apply the brakes with this esc. the tires lock and it comes to a stop fast. but you can stear when the brakes are applied as the wheels are not rolling. Is there a way to adjust this or is it just a qwerk of a loer dollar esc?
