The weird thing is, why would HPI let him out of his contract? That makes zero sense (for us outside looking in). Of course, he can choose to "suck" for the remaining contract years, but that would probably hurt him more. So this makes me think he made an HR mistake... Maybe he got caught sleeping with the boss' daughter? . Using the expense account on some trophy girls? Of course, this is said jokingly. But i wouldn't be surprised if such was the case.
Or maybe HB violated the contract language on their end? Who knows if the contract had stipulations about how many classes Hara wanted to run and HB haven't been able to get the cars out fast enough or cancelled platforms altogether. I doubt they like their star driver using other companies cars even if it isn't a direct competitor at a class level. Or maybe boh parties had different ideas about what certain contract language required and neither was willing to budge? It will be interesting to see where he goes. Personally, I'd like to see him go to a relative unknown and turn them into champions. More interesting than going to a front runner like Xray.

Team Associated still gets my votes. The only thing they dont make is Nitro TC and 1/8 onroad. He can drive another company's car till AE decides to make them again. I personaly would love to see what he could do with a TC6.1 and the 12r5.1. He already uses Reedy motors and in off road has driven the B4 platform with great results.

Think of it realistically

why would he quit a team AND take his mechanic with him?

He most likely wants to make his own car and be his own boss, ala JQ

Why would JQ, who designed the car himself and seems to have done a pretty good job of it, pay a fortune to someone else to do it for him?

Edit: Reread your post and I think I misunderstood. I assume you were comparing him to JQ, not suggesting he go to JQ?

I hope he ends up with Serpent. If you think about it it makes sence for both sides. They have top cars on all classes but they lack IMO, a top current driver on all classes as well. They are developing the offroad side very fast and need fast offroad drivers to win with their cars, plus their onroad cars are all already very good but they lack a top driver. I think its a win-win. Plus the IC 1/8th on road Worlds are this year and Serpent have an all new car, plus the race is in Japan.

I don't know, Mazzeo just beat a damn strong field to win the TC Euros.
