Default Sticky Track ?

Just asking your guys opions on what makes for the best stuff to spray on an asphalt track to get it nice and sticky. Looking for any type of stuff cheap or expensive. Just want to see what others are using at there tracks. I heard the stuff they used at the Reedy Race was inexpensive and very good.

So if anyone has input on what you use please give the name and how you mix it and cost.

Thanks

at a TCS race.. the guys bought about 10 2liter bottles of root beer. stabbed the side/bottom with an xacto knife....and WALA! instant sprayer. we applied it on the track..and the traction was great!!

VHT $18 / quart i think

mix with gas 1:3 (not sure here)

lots of grip, makes for high tire wear. It's pain to spray and smells nasty.

and no doubt does wonders for the environment.
Club here sprays suger & water, but id imagine root beer/coke or any syrup based soda/pop would do the trick

I bought a gallon of VHT locally for 20 bux and then bought 8 liter bottles of alcohol (rubbing-not drinking) and sprayed it with a mix of 2 (alc)to 1(vht), but in the enda ton of root beer and grape soda was better traction. I used about 30-36 liters on a 75x125 track.

As I recall we started cutting it with denatured alcohol, rather than gas.

i don't nkow what it is but it is sticky!!!!!!
i know they use it at drag strips.

at the track i race at that they vht. they either use 50:50 or a
75(denatured alcohol):25(vht). they put on a heavy coat first and
then as the day goes on they apply thin coats in the corners.
thracion is good.

Obviously tracks are using this stuff, but its so sticky its hard to believe the cars even move. If you have ever stepped in it, it just about ripps your shoes off.

Grape soda is pretty good or sugar water. I have heard a lot of peopel don't like VHT though, since it isn't as consistent. It gets grippy, but causes people to chase the track all day (well more than normal). Just go with sugar water, it's also cheaper.

VHT ..... this is what I use on our parking lot track. Good stuff on a track where you don't have to worry about wind bringing dust and dusting the track. At that point it gets pretty loose. Cut 1:1 with mineral spirits or methanol cost 20$ a gallon to spray don't use gas to cut it's bad for your asphalt

Sugar water (karows corn syrup)...... this is what we use at one of my tracks and is what they used at the Reedy Race. I mix it about 4 parts water to 1 part corn syrup. Great traction very sticky. You want to spray enough for the track to get wet. On our track about 100'x70' I spray around 10 gallons.

If your track temps get over 135 deg for extended periods of time and your running nitro cars then you'll probly want to run VHT. Sugar water/soda turns into M&M's and seals the asphalt up so well that the lubricants from the nitro fuel will sit on top of the candy coating making for one lose ass track.

Hope that helps. BTW cost of soda is about half of VHT but if you can still get a 55 gal drum of corn syrup this would be the least expensive of all. The biggest thing on spraying your track is make sure it's blown off very well and be consistent with the spray.

I race at several tracks that use a variety of substances to bring up the traction.
1. Methenol/VHT w/ 3 to 1 mix=traction is great and tire wear is excellent, but chemicals cost alot of money to coat a big track surface.
2. Cheap 3 liter grape and rasberry soda=traction and tire wear is good when compared to VHT mix but alot cheaper.
3. Corn syrup/water/1 bag of confection sugar=traction was very high and tire wear was better than excellent.

Different tracks but with similar grades of asphalt, tight and smooth. I must say that the best and most cost effective traction compound was #3.

Just my take on the matter.
