I know some tracks use regular gasoline and use 50/50. When I was running at Crystal Park that is what they had me use there. I know that Scott over at 4 Fun uses a 50/50 split with methanol. However methanol is expensive.

We cut it regular gasoline. I know of some tracks that cut it with denatured alchohol, but if you ask me, gas works better.

At our local tracks we use 3 gallons of Methenol / 1 gallon of VHT. I never heard of the Gas mix, does it compare to the methenol. I mean I know it must work if tracks are using it, but what is the comparison as far as traction?

i guess you don't have to worry about corner marshalls smoking at your track.

What is going to give my track (untreated/unsealed) asphalt more traction?:

Gasoline/other chemical
Sugar water
Grape Soda(or other colas)

VHT will give the most traction.....then grape soda, then sugar water (which rarely works right)....

VHT is pricey, like $40 a gallon.....

VHT..... this is what I use on our parking lot track. Good stuff on a track where you don't have to worry about wind bringing dust and dusting the track. At that point it gets pretty loose. Cut 1:1 with mineral spirits or methanol cost 20$ a gallon to spray don't use gas to cut it's bad for your asphalt. VHT can be had for much less than 40$ a gallon. If you have a really good speed shop localy you could talk to the owner or manager and maybe he'll cut you a deal. This is what I did and he thought what we were doing was pretty cool and cut us a deal. We get it for a resale price of 15$ a gallon, you can also buy it in a 55 gal drum but that can be pricey up front around 500$ but in the end much less expensive.

Sugar water (karows corn syrup)...... this is what we use at one of my tracks and is what they used at the Reedy Race. I mix it about 4 parts water to 1 part corn syrup. Great traction very sticky. You want to spray enough for the track to get wet. On our track about 100'x70' I spray around 10 gallons.

If your track temps get over 135 deg for extended periods of time and your running nitro cars then you'll probly want to run VHT. Sugar water/soda turns into M&M's and seals the asphalt up so well that the lubricants from the nitro fuel will sit on top of the candy coating making for one lose ass track.

Hope that helps. BTW cost of soda is about half of VHT but if you can still get a 55 gal drum of corn syrup this would be the least expensive of all. The biggest thing on spraying your track is make sure it's blown off very well and be consistent with the spray.

Here in Vegas at National performance VHT is $26.99 a gallon. I have a buddy that may be able to get it at cost.......... The problem is there is an off-road track next to the on-road track and it's always windy.

at tq hobbies in florida they usually cut it down with an alcohol of some kind, and it sticks pretty well, but give it a heat cycle or two, and the grip is worn off.

If you could get Craig Pfahl to do VHT, then you guys would be pretty stoked...

The best way to cut vht down would be using gasoline.. with all the oils that gas have you will have traction for a good long time and will stick more than using vht/alcohal mix. Has anyone noticed when the track heats up using vht/alcohal mix it go's away quick !? and you guys that know how vht works the hoter the track gets the more traction you will get.

Yeah, but it sounds really expensive. He wasn't really excited about the traction additive, but 3 of us have taken on the duty of spraying and paying for it. It sounds like were going to use grape soda.

BTW-How do you know Craig Prahl? or is Craig Pfahl a different person?
