I've just bought 2 packs of 4 cell Intellect 3300 batteries for my 1:12. And i noticed the mah reading after charging is quite low.

I'm using Team Much More Cellmaster. I'm charging them at linear 5.0A and i can only get 2800 (for pack1) /3000mah (pack2) when the charging is finished. I've repeated it a few times and the result is always within 5%. Then i discharge them to 3.6V at 10A using cellmaster and the discharge mah is around the same as well. Interal resistance is about 40mohm for pack1 and 36 for pack2

Everytime before i charge the battery, i've discharged it to 3.6V (remember 4 cell) using the charger first then put them on Team Much more Zero-V discharge tray until all the lights came off. I've also tried leave them on the discharge tray for 1 whole day but the result is very similar.

On the other hand, my GP3300 (6 months old, normal stick pack) can be charge up to 3600mah easily and discharge to 3xxx mah (at 5.4V)
Now, all my batteries are just normal cells, not matched or anything.

So i wonder if it's "normal" that the intellect cells to have a lower capacity then the GP cells?

Sure they aint false peaking? Are they warm once charged, i would expect at least 3500mah+ from them... My GPs are getting around 3900-4000mah.....

no i dont' think so. i've tried to repeak it after it's finished but can only put in another 100mah or so at most so i don't think it's false peaking and i got the same result from both of my cellmaster charger.

they are around 40 degree C when charging is finished and there was once it reached 48C and temperature cut-off was triggered. (and only charged to like 2600mah that time?)

oh and what is the delta peak voltage you guys use for the intellect 3300? i'm using 3mV (per cell i guess?)

I had a similar problem with my IB cells. I called SMC, the matcher of the pack, and they say they have seen this problem with some of the IB cells. Danny mentioned that when going through the matching process, the cells perform great, however, some cells, when assembled, perform way below what they were matched at. Neither SMC or IB new what the cause of this was. Danny told me to return the pack and they would send me out another as a replacement. Not only did the replacement pack I received back have better numbers than the pack I had sent them, the pack was also assembled and cycled on their equipment so they were sure the pack was running great.

SMC's conclusion was that my pack was one of the poor performing packs.

Chances are you pack is similar to mine. There is an IB thread already started some time ago where this issue is discussed in further detail.

Another reason spend a little extra and buy matched cells. When a cell is matched you are not only paying for a higher performing pack, but you are also insured that the cells you bought are not duds. Matching puts the cells through a certain amount of stress, helping to weed out the weak cells...cause as we know, not all cells are created equal!

Yeah they are the top cells that promatch used to offer, gp3300s with 1.175+.... And so far they feel great on the track 5 months on from new... Its usually quite cold out here so im using about 30m/v for the pack aiming to get them between 40-50C for when i hit the track.

I don't know I use these batts on my RC12L4 and 8T double Team Atlas motor. This is the first time i got a 1:12 car and both the car and motor are new to me and i don't have any other 4 cell saddle batts so i got nothing to compare with. But with my not so good pack, there were twice that the battery only last about 3 mins so i don't think it's really normal? consider i'm still learning how to drive the 1:12 and quite conservative with the throttle.

i would really reccomend GP cells instead of intellect. espeshially for 1/12. you need all the voltage and Mah you can get out of that 4 cell pack. Just keep cycling the packs and see if the numbers increase? you could try setting the delta peak 1 or 2 Mv higher? Also, are you running a reciever pack in your 1/12? they can ensure your motor gets all the voltage it can get

yeah i want to get some 4 cells GP batts but stephen doesn't have anything in stock.. and the matched packs are so much more expensive that i don't want to spend that much $$$ on it until i really know how to "drive" my car
Don't you think using a matched pack with my 1:12 learner license is a bit of waste ?

no, not running receiver pack.. from what i was told, the receiver pack can only give me another 10-15 sec of run time.. which is not gonna solve my problem. But i'll look into one once i got my battery (and my driving skills) sorted

Yeah 1/12 takes a bit of practice. i started out with one of stephens second hand unmatched 3300 packs. but i was running 6 cell with a monster pro motor. it was a corally SP12G3 which was a 6 cell chassis anyway.. see if you can find some unmatched stick packs on trademe, you can disassemble them and make 4 cell packs if you buy 3 packs, you can make 4 packs for your 1/12. if you got a discharge tray, they wont be that bad.

hey how did you disassemble the stick pack?? Stephen told me not to do that as it may damage the cells easily.

i disassembled a cheap dick smith battery pack. just carefully slice open the heatshrink and pull the tabs off with pliers. didnt damage the cell at all.
