Spec-R gear diff gears wearing out

On a previous car, I had to replace the gears in a Spec-R gear diff. Last night the front diff on my sons car went aswell. Has anyone else had problems with the gears wearing ? I've ordered the carbon ones to replace them, but I don't think that the gears should wear out after only about 5 months use. Weren't gear diffs supposed to replace the maintenance needed for ball diffs ?

maintenance free doesnt meen that they last forever
changing gears after 5months are perfectly normal

a balldiff needs rebuilding after every practice session, or more often if you want it at its best, thats a BIG difference in maintenance

Yes, 5 months from a set of gears is normal. If you Mod they won't last 5 months. You can get the gears to last a little longer if you check and reshim the gears to reduce lash as they wear.

Gear diff are no less maintenance intensive than ball diffs if you are a serious racer. That they offer is higher poerfomance than ball difs in some conditions. In others ball diffs are faster.

I rebuild Gear and Ball diffs once a month. My ball diffs would easily last a month of weekly races.
