Default New Motor for SS Sedan?

This is purely speculation, but the IIC rules for 2013 show the motor in SS sedan as "TBD."

Could we see a move to something faster? Perhaps 10.5?

I like the idea personally. 13.5 feels a little bit too much like fast 17.5 than baby mod.

I am going to be pretty upset if SS tc gets 10.5 but SS 12th remains as 13.5

Good. Hey, maybe they'll make it a boosted class again.
IMO, SS should have never been blinky.

Bring back boost!

It already says "blinky" which leaves the door wide open for speculation on a new motor.

oh. Well, if they want it to feel like a mild mod, 8.5 blinky would be ok. I think 10.5 boosted would be a better transitional class to mod though.

10.5 is too fast. I'd rather see a mod/17.5/21.5 class structure.

Presumably that's not the direction IIC is going based on amateur and stock still being 17.5. It's an interesting thought though. I think I'm more in the 21.5/10.5/mod camp myself.

Or even 21.5/17.5/10.5 if you're considering a spec mod which I know means you also hate puppies, baby squirrels and Jesus.

Huh? You want to see a bigger gap between Mod and the other classes?

10.5 too fast? Says the man with a 4.x motor in his touring car.

I do agree but I feel it should be 21.5 as amateur
17.5 stock blinky
17.5/13.5 boosted as SS class as a boosted will get you more prepared for modified even though most don't really run boost on carpet.

Then modified.

I could do 10.5 modified if people would race it although I suspect that if Lemieux, Hebert, Cyrul, and I raced in this class it would all of a sudden be "too fast".

I don't think 10.5 is too fast. But there seems to be a push to make the spec classes faster and faster while at the same time there are complaints that mod is too fast.

10.5 blinky would be faster than mod was at a time when people began saying that mod was too fast.

If I could come up with a way to make a 17.5 motor as fast as a 5.5 I bet I could not keep them in stock. But people would still say mod was too fast.

I don't think it's the outright speed that puts people off so much as the abrupt power delivery. I think that's why boosted 17.5 was so well-liked, because you could go faster but it wasn't terrifying to drive in the infield, even with the light switch ESC's of the day. Probably why nitro on-road speeds don't seem to bother people as much either.

Just a guess. Unfortunately, blinky does nothing to solve this, and in fact makes things worse since the profiles are designed to deliver power as aggressively as possible. A problem that's exacerbated by going to faster blinky classes.

The 10.5 too fast was just a joke. I know you don't think thats too fast. I think there needs to be a buffer zone if you will. Stock is blinky. Mod is boost. Promote people to want to move up to mod. Make the middle class boosted. There will always be some who think the middle class is too much. I know there are sponsored 17.5 guys who don't want to work with the speeds of modified.

Exactly. People have the problem IMO switching from stock to mod because of the abrupt power delivery. So if you have something that is boosted in the middle it prepares you proper for the power of modified. I think 10.5 boosted is too close to full modified especially when you are talking about carpet and mod and 13.5 times are only .xx away from each other to begin with.

I find it interesting that the only pan-car class that stipulates "No Boost" is 17.5 12th.... Oversight? Or will Superstock 12th and 13.5 WGT allow boost?

I think it massively optimistic to think or any other organization, especially one with ROAR-like rules, will change motor rules to make a class faster. I expect that within two years 17.5 will be super stock and 'stock' will by 25.5 or slower...
