Default Plated battery bars?

I searched the forum for a "battery bars" thread and the results sent me to a "Ofna 1/8th scale" thread. For some reason, the search box is not working. So, I have to ask this question again:

Why are battery bars plated? Is it to improve the conductivity or the strength of copper? Isn't copper the most conductive material? Why do manufacturers make silver, gold, platinum platted battery bars?

In other words, if I had a top of the line, racing battery pack (I do ), which battery bars should I use to assemble it? Does it actually make any difference resistance wise?

there is less resistance in braided wire, so it won't matter what type of bar you use. Go by what you like the look of best. Alot of pictures of Orion packs I have seen have had copper bars with no plating.
