Is it safe to still use and charge this LIPO?

Hello guys,
I have an Onyx 2S 5000mah LIPO battery. I just bought it a month ago. Today my friend crashed it in a sidewalk pretty hard. How does the battery look? Do you think its still safe to use? Thanks |
Any lipo that is suspected to be ''damaged or shorted'' should never be charged again
this one seems like it lost his normal form / shape i would dispose of it as safely as possible check online how to dispose of it safely without harming anyone |
Do you think the cells are puffed? Even though its on the top of the battery
|
Seriously, it's not worth the risk.
If in doubt don't use it - you do not want it to combust, it will destroy the car and has the potential to do a lot worse to a human. |
If the cells are dented and it is hard to tell from your pics, I would bin it, also, i would not run soft case packs in an on road car, or any car for that matter. Hard case packs will take the crashes and protect the cells from impact damage.

Bummer, its a brand new battery. Maybe only had 4 runs on it

Better disposing of that lipo than having to replace the whole car because you used the lipo and it caught on fire.

Make Hobbyking for friend, 6000mha 50C hard case packs for $30.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ar_Lipoly.html The reason for the hard case is to minimize the chance of cell damage from a big impact. And as others have said, when you have any doubt at all it's best to be on the safe side, and I would personally stop using that battery. Try to find somewhere safe to keep it until you're able to dispose it. If you have a metal bucket with sand or soil that would be ideal, but if not, put it where nothing could catch fire if it does ignite. Cheers Rob. |
+1
Cost of new battery vs cost of new RC car or 1:1 car or garage or house? Or perhaps your hand? Let's keep this in perspective here... |
If you have to ask, throw it out!!!
|
I would still use it, as long as it didn't swell any when it got bumped or whatever!!!
|
the lead end of packs have a very thick foamish/rubber sheet that i can only assume insulates the wires from impact where they connect to the cells.
if this is the case, which it appears to be, my personal experience is that it is not an issue at all. but just looking at the few photos you posted it is impossible to tell with any amount of certainty, so use the pack at your own risk. |
If I have the slightest uncertainty I would dispose of it properly.

I had a small lipo in my pocket one day when I was out crawling, I sat on it on accident and heard it spark in my pocket, it puffed up real hard, but to my amazement, when I stuck it on the charger to see where the cells were and if one were dead or not, it was absolutely perfect, and I still use it to this day for stuff, they are assembled with a decent amount of padding on the ends and even the outside, I see nothing wrong with it,i'd keep right on cruising.....
