In theory, less flex. But the change was probably so minute that it went un-noticeable.

Of course

Hey (0000000000000000000), so I drove a friends ARC wich is basically an X-ray. I love my XI Sport but I need to be driving smoothly otherwise it flips.
I also loved how aggressively I could drive his car without flipping.

In theory, If my XI chassis was stiffer, would it react similar to those Tamiya, and X-Rays?

A buddy of mine has a nice CNC and it would not take much for me to try an aluminum frame!!!

If you copy my setup exactly, the car will slightly understeer and feel very neutral and stable. With 3mm washers to level out the camber link, your roll center will be pretty stable and difficult to flip. With no sauce on the front tires and swaybars on both ends, there is no reason for the car to flip, other than jerky driving. Maybe turn down your dual rates on channel 2.

You'll notice that the ARC and Sakura are very similar to the Xray T4, which itself is very similar to the TRF 417. Changing cars won't make you flip over less and not break top plates. More practice at driving and learning how to setup your car is the answer.

There is a lot of talk about aluminum bottom plates these days. I used to race foam tires on stiff chassis cars, like the Xray T1 with 3mm bottom plate, 3mm top plate, and countersunk screws all around to prevent flex. Mind you, we carried about 300g more weight with those NIMH saddle packs. The aluminum chassis plate options on high-end cars today appears to be one way to achieve stiffness and low CG, as there is little risk of a NIMH saddle pack dead-shorting on your chassis now (hardcase lipo FTW). It's also a great way for companies to sell more parts for high-end cars.

Personally: I don't believe most people need stiffer tuning options for the Sakura. So long as rubber tires are the norm, flex will continue to be a component of the setup equation. And never lose sight of the fact that if you wanted to spend $400 hopping up your $70 car, you would have just bought a TRF or Xray to begin with. LOL

The Xi Sport is a great car to learn setup and driving on. Once you are good enough to A-main or BQ at your local club, that is when you should start to decide on moving up to a fancier chassis.

Good luck out there. Have fun and stay away from the boards.

If you want your car to behave like your friends car, try to notice the firmness of his front springs and swaybar. It will likely be very different from what you are running right now.

Also, my setup has a few screws removed from the top plate. Put all the screws in and shim up the camber links.

What kind of tires and sauce are you using? My car is setup for SWEEP 32's. If you are using the treaded tires that came with the kit, you will have way too much side bite (because of the treads) and way to much tire hugging the carpet (because of the open foam inserts).

Hey (000000000000000000),
Thanks for all that. I just like to tinker and making myself an aluminum chassis will cost me 5$ or gonna be free so I figured it is worth a try and then again, maybe I will hate it? But this is not work for me, I enjoy this kind of stuff.

Our sauce is SXT 3.0 our tires used to be sweep 28 and now I think Jaco blue.
It's crazy, the fast guys are running 10 seconds, I started at almost twice that and in about 5 outings I'm now averaging 11.3 and 10.7 fastest lap.
My motor os Turnigy 17.5T with 80amp Turbo (blinky) ESC. My motor never goes above 55 celcius even at 3.8 FDR. THe fastest guys at our track tried it and said the motor was lacking. He was right. My timing was already advanced completely so I ground the mecanical stops for timing advance. I'll slowly increase the timing and temp the motor and see how it holds up??

I actually won the C-main last week end. Maybe I'll be in the B-main next time??

I'm getting the hang of driving way smoother and my car almost never flips but I just noticed I could drive much more aggressively with what seemed like stiffer chassis

We'll see if I get around to making myself an aluminum chassis, I'll let you guys know how it handles.

BTW what do you think of the Ultimate VS X-ray. Does the Ultimate chassis flex much more than the ray?

Cheers,

One more thing, I notice in your setup the 3mm shims, are those what you mean by the camber link ones? The guys tell me to add shims on the inboard ball stud because the ball link and suspension arms are not parallel?
