Default Wheel Shims

I wanted to share this as others may run into this. Shims are definitely needed on the axles due to slop, but be careful as too many and after you put on the hubs and tighten down the wheels it will cause drag. The just right shims are the .25mm thickness. Anything more will cause wheel binding, and drag in the drive, and anything less and you get a small amount of slop.

Another thing in comparison to the Sakura Zero is that when you tighten down the bulk heads on the diffs, it would cause binding. You have to put shims to get it tight but free. Took a while to figure that out on that kit!

On the Sakura XI it's perfect and tight. Great improvement over the Zero. Everything else on the car appears to be well designed and well made.

Hope that helps.

I'm looking at possibly getting one of these, there's very little chatter in the correct thread for it. Were you missing a lot of parts from your kit?

Nothing was missing in my kit or any other kit I had from 3Racing but that does not mean it can never happen as they are packed by people not machines. If parts are missing for some reason the parts can easily be purchased cheap, or depends who you order it from (if willing and carry the items) can replace them for you. I have the Sakura Zero and the XI is so much more precise in the tolerances in fit overall when compared to the Zero. They really stepped up the molding precision on the XI and it shows. It was super easy to build and the instructions are very clear if you look at the pictures very close!
If you just eye ball the install, you can easily make some simple mistakes.

Hope that helps.

Thanks SP. Ive been reading all the sakura threads and they all seemed to have the same theme, at least at first.(missing/damaged parts out of the box) For the money it looks like a good car, just the lack of chatter and any kind of really follow up after running kinda scares me. On the bright side, the couple people that have reported back seem to really like that car and say it's pretty tough.

You are Welcome! I have had and still do, Associated, HPI, and OFNA and now 3Racing due to cost and bang for the buck factor. Iv'e read people beating more expensive cars with the XI. For the price and what you get there is nothing close in the price range for the performance and build quality. Whats nice is that many parts are exchangeable with other versions which is great! I like that 3Racing does that while other competitors kits, once they design a new car, few parts are similar and over time you can't get parts anymore and you are forced to buy a whole new car. 3Racing hit the nail with that together with the best budget competitive well designed car. I'm not sure how they do it but they did!

Are the arms from a Zero more solid than XI Sport ones?

I used to use Zero arms on my Xi Sport. They seemed to be beefier at the time. I don't use them anymore, but they did work well with the Xi.
