D3.5 for now as our club has deemed them legal. Been plenty happy with it. Performance is very good and it doesn't have questionable epoxy coatings that short out without warning.

That would've been my pick if the local track had it. That day I burnt my speed passion MMM motor and had to buy something LOL. Only if I had known that earlier...

I've seen 4 killshots go poof recently. None of them overgeared, none of them pushing the temp limit. With these motors its not IF, but WHEN will it go up in smoke.

Hey guys,
With so many of these Killshots just popping for no logical reason I am wondering if its because Trinity sold so many of them that naturally you will get more failures OR are there really THAT many KS failures (compared to the number sold) at this point? From what I am seeing the power seems great but if there is like a 1 in 3 chance of the motor AND a $200 ESC popping it just doesn't seem worth the gamble to run one!

Has Trinity acknowledged or made any changes to prevent these failures? And when the D4 does finally come out do you think they will stop production of the KS? IOW does it fill a different niche than the D4 will?

I would stay away from them. Either they will pop on the 1st or 2nd run or they will pop on the 100th run. They are fast motors. It's just that they are not reliable. It's not if they will go, it's when and at what cost. I'll stick with the D3.5 for now as long as my track allows it.

I run for trinity/revtech and haven't had any problems with any of my killshots, 17.5 ht maxzilla and a 21.5 ht maxzilla. The 17.5 is pretty much a season old and working great, run the timing around 55 degrees on both motors and all is good

I know this is a little off topic but I am new to the RC hobby and just bought a 2nd hand Killshot 17.5 to run in my Xray T3 and was wondering how do you change the timing of the motor as it seems to be set around 65degrees on the can and I am a little worried it may burn out. What is the stock timing for these motors when they come from the factory or what timing should I set for this motor?

Loosen the 2 screws by the timing marks..Turn the endbell counter clock wise and reset to 55-56*. That's a great spot. I would run between 3.72-3.95 track pending in Blinky TC. I run on a med carpet track 11 sec laps and run 3.76 with a HT Kill Shot with a 12.5 HT rotor and have awesome power. Many people try and gear them higher or run 60*+ of timing but all that does is stress motor and produce heat and lag in corners.

Factory timing is 40* on endbell.

Hope this helps.

You unloosen the 2 screws on the endbell side of the motor and rotate the inner ring till the timing reads 55 degrees or so and you should be good to go.

It can get faster with a RPM version and 12.5 High RPM rotor. Trust me! You just have to gear in the 3.9 or 4.0 fdr with motor timing at 60*.
