I have a large Futaba servo, but it weighed way to much. I replaced it with a Savox 1251 servo. works very good.

My primary Mi5 has a Futaba S9551 in it. I have one for the second car but am currently using the GM Brushless shorty available through Schumacher. It is showing a lot of promise currently and might become my goto servo.

In my prior touring car, I had a Savox 1251 and bought the 1252 for the Mi5 initially. Unfortunately the press fit gears started to slip after a month with no hard crashes. It cost me an important main event and I certainly won't be using them in any future cars. I know it could be a one off issue but the fact is they aren't much cheaper than the S9551 and I believe the difference in price is worth it.

KO Propo PDS-2413 ICS (low profile). Perfect touring car servo

Someone mentioned to me that one of the older KO's, might the one JayBee mentions, was only like $60 at one of the japanese shops (futaba pro shop maybe?), and would be a killer deal. There's also the Savox 1251mg as a budget option. Futaba BLS551 and sanwa srg-bl and srg-bls as more expensive options, and Futaba S9551 somewhere in the middle.
Don't be fooled by Futaba's speed ratings, though. I think they are under-rated. My BLS-551 feels faster than my 1251mg ever did, even though the rating is slower.

i thank you all for your input, i ordered a savox 1251 and will use that to get some learning time on this little gem. if i get good enough at driving i will go with a faster servo. once again i thank you all...

Race Report

Well, up till today, I still wasn't 100% sold on the Schumacher Mi5. I have been chasing setup a little bit overall, and haven't really been able to get the car to drive as well as my 417 on our outdoor asphalt tracks. Yesterday was stop #3 on the Northwest Asphalt Challenge traveling series up here in WA state, and it was a blast of a race day at my home track.

I had some issues with rear traction in my qualifiers, and running qual points instead of a single best run, hurt me for the starting grid. I ended up starting 3rd in the A main in 17.5. But after my last set of setup changes, the car was a completely different animal. The car was absolutely flawless in the main event. Not only did I get the car to be as easy to drive as my Tamiya (stable, predictable, etc). It actually ended up being measurably faster on the same track (we have a permanent track layout that doesn't change).

I ended up putting it altogether for the main event and took the win. Not only was the win a nice treat, I also destroyed the track lap record in 17.5 blinky by almost 2 full tenths, on a ~13-14 second track. I ran a 13.08 on lap #7 in the main, previous track record was a 13.195 set last summer.

Needless to say, I am now 100% sold. This car is a monster. All I need to do now is work on the front end slop. What a day. And of course, I gotta toss in a couple of obligatory pictures

Thanks Jaybee, I was hoping you would be able to make it out, bummer you couldn't. Ritchie couldn't make it either unfortunately. We race every other Sunday, opposite FW.

I think he was planning on running just F1. I haven't heard of any interest in him running a new TC.
