I don't think anyone cares about smaller spurs and weight being 2mm (or whatever) further back. The blinky motor mount is primarily designed to allow for gearing impossible to achieve in the normal position. This would be the main reason. Keep in mind in classes like 21.5 blinky people run unbelievably small ratios such as 3 or thereabouts. In most cars these are not possible without some creative liberties (microscopic spurs/intergalactic pinions that didn't even exist before 21.5 and blinky came about).

The Mi5 and Mi5evo can easily achieve blinky ratios with standard motor mount. RW spurs available down to 64t or lower meaning ratios into the 2.x:1 range are achievable. All you might need to do is switch standard cap head motor screw to button head to clear pinion.

The blinky mount is a tuning option and is not required to run the standard car in at least up to 21.5

I run 21.5 blinky with the Mi5EVO and run a normal Schumacher 64t spur in 48dp with a 37t or 38t pinion depending on the track using button head screws to hold the motor. I have the blinky motor mount and will be trying it as it will allow the normal motor screws to be used with a washer and with good clearance from the pinion - will be using 44t spur and 25 or 26 pinion.

One big advantage of the EVO, over the original Mi5, for the blinky classes is that there are now 1 degree and 1.5 degree toe in rear arms available, I'll be running 1 degree next time I hit the track .

Here's the Blinky motor mount in place, fitted up with 44t spur, ready to run with 21.5 motor.

Looks amazing!

How would you guys rate the build quality of this car? I'm thinking of getting the EVO. I've never owned a Schumacher so I'm curious.

Also, where is the car made?

The Mi5 I built was the most enjoyable R/C build ever, great instructions, very high quality parts - Evo looks even better.

Thank you. I wanted to be sure it wasn't made in China or something.

So what kinda pinion sizes have you experimented with for 17.5?

We don't run 17.5 in Australia so haven't tested. Spec classes are 13.5 and 21.5.

This car set for 21.5 with Schumacher 44t spur and I think 25t pinion (using blinky motor mount). I think that may be the only super small size spur available at the moment.

Spurs for evo are same as previous cars - so Schumacher or RW brand.

Will take down to a 19t pinion (4.17FDR) so should cater for 17.5 blinky without any trouble. We only run 21.5 and 13.5 blinky classes here and they are no trouble so 17.5 should slot somewhere in the middle, probably a 22t or something.
