Ok so I could hook something similar to the old deans bulb bar to the power side of the charger along with the power supply and it would discharge at the higher amperage?

It goes in series with the RC battery (not on the power supply side). Check out page 18 of the manual.

If you want more help we need to know your battery size, 1S, 2S, etc, and discharge amperage target (20A?). And the resistance of the bulbs. Might need some tweaking too due to the typical resistance change of light bulbs as they heat up.

3.75 - 3.85 Volts per cell. I usually go for 3.8v and it is really important that the pack is in balance as well.

I haven't seen a dedicated 4010 thread but there is a 308 and 406 in the radio I and electronics forum. They are mostly the same chargers aside of the charging amps and cell allowance. So you could prob ask questions in one of those.

But with all the big races checking battery temp it will not help as it wont pass tech.

The heat is the only reason it increases the voltage and lowers IR. If you let the pack cool to room temp and check it it will be the same as if you charged it at 5 amps. I have yet to see a charger that has any special voodoo built in that will charge and make a battery faster without using heat.

Ive been charging at 40 amps since December with the ICharger Duo 4010 came out. I raced every week all the way up till the birds. I only keep two packs to my name at a time. I practice and race on those two packs every week in TC. Those packs are still good today as they were new in December. The 40 amps thus far has not shown any ill effects at all. Generally when I go to the track its 4-5 charges per pack per day. There were some 3 day races in there too.

The pack I won the birds with was charged at 40 amps every single charge. I used it in both 17.5 and 13.5 TC all week in every practice and every race. Then I sent it to Josh Cyrul and he did the same with it in Modified and 13.5 sedan which he won both classes. That battery was put through hell and still cycles the same as it did when it was new a week before the birds.

The key to keeping batteries fresh is USING THEM! And making sure they dont sit with a full charge or zero charge in them. Not being used is a Lipo's worst enemy I have found.

Eric, what packs are these robust monsters you speak of?

Slightly off topic, being an electric novice, can anyone recommend charger settings, I have a team much more hybrid pro.

The batteries are Orca 1s 3.7v 6800mah (12th scale)

It charges a max 10 amp, which is what I plan to use, but what about all the other settings I need to set in the charger (voltage, peak, etc)

Also, reading this thread, should I charge it to 3.8v then store it?

Thanks

Charger, or any good LiPo charger, should have all the right settings out of the box, choose your amps and cell count, and charge, LiPo is easy.

For storage, or inbetween meets, most chargers have a "storage' mode, which is like 50-75% charge, usually the idea is to not storage the pack either flat or full, as either is hardest on the cells, you should avoid flattening a LiPo as well, if your hitting the lipo cutoff on yours esc, it's not great for the packs.

Oh and try and make sure your packs get used or cycled (like at least once a month if your not racing), they actually loose some punch from not being used regularly.

Reality:

Time for a new charger...

You need a charger to charge a lipo battery a min of 30 amps to have
the benefits of lower IR and higher voltage.

If not, your already at a disadvantage at a big race.

I always store lipos at 3.8 per cell.

What is the IR if charged at 10A and 30A.
