Snowbirds isn't a ROAR race. I don't believe they have any charging rules.

Suddenly ROAR's 1C rule doesn't sound so bad, though.

I wasn't referring to the birds, but to the statement about Josh Cyrul charging at 40amps at the ROAR nats as well.

I seen that video and JOKE is on HIM!

He should have learned how to use the charge first before commenting on it.
I should have mention that Thunder Power copied this charger and has it out now for $100.00 more.

I would buy another Vr-1 in a minute! LOL!

1C charging with the newer lipos coming out will take like an hour to charge.
ROAR is Priceless.

I'm pretty sure it'll take the same amount of time to put the 1500 mah your little girl 17.5 motors pull out back into the pack regardless of its capacity.

Ah, missed that. I'm not sure if that rule is enforced anymore to be perfectly honest. I was at that race, though, and Josh stuff was so good it wouldn't matter if the competition had been running 3S packs. To take anything away from him because of some charging nonsense would be foolish.

That charger is garbage, sorry.

And if you really think that little bit of extra rip helps, the IB packs with the 5mm plugs have the best discharge numbers right now.

It is very sad to see people are pushing the limits again on lipo's. Although there are knowledgable people around and charging at higher currents is not directly unsafe, it just takes one bonehead attempting something stupid to gain an edge and there is a lipo fire. And they are not nice!

If we all just use the rule and charge at 1C (or change it to 2c to save time) all this heating of pack tomgain an edge would not exist. Now everybody is more or less forced to charge at ridiculous currents... Especially in the 'stock' classes where the new guys with the least knowledge of what is fast and what is dangerous are....

Have fun with 40 amps. Thanks for making life more difficult than it should.
That rule is no longer in effect if you look at the rule book it is from 2010 anyway. I guess I should have clarified that he used the same pack in both classes at the race as that is what I meant by he did the same thing as I did at the Snowbirds....Not charged it at 40 amps as I did. He doesnt have a charger capable of that at this time.

Sorry for the confusion.

There are soon to be other packs with 5mm bullets too.

So for a non tech guy like me. What is the advantage to charging at this high rate? More punch, longer running time? Do I need to buy special batteries to do this along with the better charger?

Read my long post a few post back. It explains pretty much everything about higher charge rates. Care must be taken if anyone is going to try it but the gains are minimal unless the rules allow it.

I wouldn't recommend this for charging the lower grade 20C packs.

The advantage is higher voltage longer and lower IR = more speed and RIP!

There's the added bonus of burning down your house, too.
