Default Spektrum System - Any Comments before I take the plunge?

I really want one of the Spektrum systems, but a buddy of mine that is much more "in the know" than I am says that he has heard of a lot of problems with them.

I guess I am looking for reassurance that it is a stable system and/or any problems that people have to make me hold off on the purchase. It'll be going in a JR R-1 Pro.

there were problems with the first batch, and horizon is fixing those problems. Both Bentley and I ran Spektrums in our 3pk at the first state points race and both of us agreed we will not go back.

LOL - I didn't expect a reply from a "local" - LOL... I PM'd Bentley to see how he still likes his - I didn't realize you had one too.

The system is fine. There were a few hiccups with the first batch's, but that has been remedied since. If you don't have an R-1 yet wait for a little while JR is coming out with their new radio.

How can you tell if one is from the first batch or not? I have been looking for them on eBay since Horizon shows them as out of stock.

Better question - any idea where I can get one that is known to be from a "good" batch?

If it takes more than a second or two to bind up with the transmitter, then it is probably a bad one. Its actually a software error, and horizon will reprogram it for you if it is bad. Both Brian's and mine bound almost instantaneously, so i would assume all of the bad units are out of the way. Good luck finding extra recievers right now, though, as last i checked they are in pretty short supply unless you want to get ripped on ebay.

The one I am looking at is "new in sealed box" - but how could I find out if it is good - I mean, it could have been sitting on a shelf as a "bad" one for a while.

That don't help- Gotta be for an R-1 -

I am going to put the spektrum RX in the big X-ray, and I guess I just swap modules back to crystals for the Mini, M-18, and Mini-T --- at least until I can come up with more RXs.
