Hey all, I recently acquired a TRF415 MS & I was looking at doing a rear diff conversion for it to handle the brushless motor's on today's market. I have searched everywhere & no one seems to make a complete conversion kit for it. Can someone be kind enough to be able to give me a small write up with step by step instructions & the parts required to do so?

The TRF415 MS is a awesome chassis & I don't want to let it go..

Just a quick one, if you dont do the centre pulley change, you should be ok with the std 415 belts. You do need to fit the 37t front spool pulley on as well. After nearly a year this conversion is still working 100% and the 3Racing gear diff is still smooth as butter

What advantage will I get by replacing the center pulleys anyway? Is it even necessary?

I'm actually trying to work off a budget to get this beast back to life..

Their isn't really any major benefit. I just did it to see if I could get teh same FDR as my 417. Having a FDR near 2.0 is meant to stop the belts skipping more.. but I personally cant tell the difference.

I wouldn't bother especially if on a budget.

Go to the 415 forum and there are the steps to install a Tamiya gear diff, updated larger centre pulley and what belts to use.

part numbers are there, probably in the last 10 pages of the thread, save you looking all the way through.

I have done it on my 415 and very easy to do

I sussed out the Tamiya gear diff install on the 415 thread. Looks to be a more expensive route than the previous one mentioned with the 3racing gear diff setup..

I'm actually trying to find a write up on the Lipo mod for this chassis now.. No luck yet.

Sakura, not really expensive diff, pulleys and belts.

where you at in Sydney? what track are you at, i am at SMA at Tempe and can show you how i ran my Lipo no reason to mod teh car. At first i ran a Bitty Design Lipo tray but took that out due to teh weight and just ran the lipo taped in.

Do you know the part numbers of everything required for the Tamiya diff conversion? If possible then ofcourse I would like to stick with genuine Tamiya parts but am willing to sacrifice that without compromising on quality due to my budget.

Qatmix mentioned earlier that there isn't any major benefit in replacing the center pulleys & belts. What are your thoughts on that chrisk?

I am located in Maroubra & race on the odd occasion at SMA in Tempe. Are you able to post up some pictures of the way you have your lipos mounted? I really like the neat layout of the Bitty Design Lipo tray but can't seem to find anyone who sells it still..

I wonder if Tamiya make a lower deck for stick batteries to suit the TRF415 MS & if anyone has tried it out with a lipo yet..

There isnt really any benefit to use the tamiya Gear diff over the sakura one. It costs 3 times more money and actually is no more reliable.

This is the Tamiya gear diff part no if you want to use that instead Tamiya 42197.

As to a stick pack chassis for the MS, yes there are some around, but the amount they cost is prohibitive and you could buy a second hand 416 for a similar price.

I hang the lipo off the side, and made a little brace by drilling into the chassis. It holds the lipo on well and I have never had an issue with it moving off.

And there isnt really any benefit changing the centre pulleys / belts. It is not essential I only did it so I could make the FDR the same as my 417.. just out of lazyness so I can easily make my son have the right gearing as me.

Sakura read the 415 forum and the part numbers are all there, I use the Tamiya diff because I found it better than the specR that I had tried. I changed gearing as well to make it easier to get FDR that I was looking for and made it the same as my 417.

I have a new stick pack chassis, and a bitty design lipo tray as well. Not sure if I want to sell thou. I will be at SMA next Tuesday and ask for Chrisk and I'll show you what I had done with my 415. It is on the shelf now as I had a 416 no onto a 417.

UPDATE: Pulleys & Belts will require replacing as I am currently in the process of changing it to a geared differential & now I am stuck as the belts are too small to fit over the 37T pulley.
