I was wondering why we don't see more of these? Have the companies experimented with them and found them not as good as dual belt?
I know that they have pan cars, but a traditional looking TC with direct drive sounds like fun.
Even if it were just for Stock, it would be nice to try.

Corally Assassin can be run as a direct drive, not sure about the RDX though.

the rdx cannot be direct drive, but i have run the assassin direct drive for a long time and it launches harder than anything with belt or shaft gear reduction. it is harder to get gear ratios but thats a small price to pay. the direct drive assassin is still for sale if u contact Superior Hobbies or Corally USA

Direct drive = less parts

less parts = cheaper to maintain

cheaper to maintain = less profit potential for RC companies

That's not really direct drive either...That's just gear reduction instead of belt. Same concept, different implementation.

if thats the case, why on earth is their still pan cars?
I agree though that the bread and butter for companies is in the parts.
I still think their is a good market for direct drive.
When is that Tech racing supposedly out?
BTW, who the heck is Tech racing?

hey, your right. I just noticed that.
Why is Japan so eager to experiment and just have "fun" with products and the US just squats on old reliables.
We never want to think outside the box.
I think thats what this hobby has lost. The Fun Factor.

So what's the advantage of direct drive system? You change the spur and you lost your diff setting? The motor position is on the very back of the chassis?

The reason the pan car class is still alive is purely because of support from pan car racers. Manufacturers for the most part do not support this class. And magazines stopped supporting this class since the mid 90's

the main advantage of it is the launch and power u can transfer. the only DD touring car ive had is the assassin, and the way the diffs were, u didnt loose ur diff setting when u changed spur. i always overcame the amount of rear grip by running stiffer springs in the rear than the front

If that were true, there would be no shaft cars on the market. Much less to maintain, break,and replace on a shaft drive car. At least with a direct drive car you still have to replace 1 belt.
