HPI WR8 Flux/Ken Block H.F.H.V. Rally Car Thread

Competitively raced my new WR8 this weekend - tuned the suspension and diffs but had a horrible experience with the ESC thermalling with the use of a 3S pack.
ESC set up was stock. I have a Castle adaptor but didnt see any setting to turn off the thermal protection.
It would finish a race with a 2S.
Any ideas?

I had to stick with the 2S.

I ended up going with the Castle MMP & 3800KV combo in mine. It really rips and I run 3s pretty much all the time. It's amazingly fun and it is absolutely solid. I can run pretty much for hours on end and not worry about stressing anything due to temps.
For reference on mine I'm running a 17t pinion with the stock 46t spur. It is probably way faster than I need it to be but it still has massive amounts of grunt and it is a blast.
Edit: here is a gallery of pictures of it if you want to check it out. It's mostly mod pictures and stuff like that. http://imgur.com/a/5K0En

which savox servo are you using? I bought a standard sized aluminum casing servo but the corner that is nearest to the steering link didn't slant as much as the stock one, and the steering link would touch that corner before being able to steer fully. I had to remove it and change back to the stock one. I have pictures and video of the problem I'll post them tml or something. thanks!

I'm running the SC1268SG http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_SC1268...avsc1268sg.htm
It's not the fastest servo in the world but it is great in the WR8. It even works great when I strap on some MT wheels and buzz through the grass.

thank you for your reply. does the steering link touch the edge of the servo at all upon full steering?
#71
Nope, it clears with both the stock servo saver and the aftermarket alloy one installed on it now.

that's great to hear! cos I'm going to get the savox 1258tg. but it's not the servo saver that blocked the steering link, it was the edge of the servo body.. I'm using ipad now, I'll upload when I'm on my computer. anyway, do you just connect your servo to the receiver and settle with just 4.8V?

I have my ESC BEC set to output 6v with the castle link. It runs good enough for me at that voltage but if you get an external BEC I'm sure you could set it higher and get even better performance.

I'd modify a Associated Rally pro diiffuser onto my WR8, Look cool & functional.

Nice! Do you have any pictures of how you mounted it up?
