I have a reedy and a gen 2 tekin but no 3.5 honestly dont see the need to buy one. if you want a safe bet that a lot of people are using, get the 3.5 or reedy.
tekin was a trade that turned out to work pretty well.
as any motor should, they all have a sweet spot and particular tune that works best.

REVTECH 17.5 is a great option.

Just pick a motor and get practice, one 17.5 to another is not costing you the race....

I jumped on the D3.5 bandwagon this past week for blinky touring car. I maxed the timing (stops at the 20 degree mark) and geared it to hit the same temps as my Speed Passion MMM (using a +20 board). The fact is I will be running the Speed Passion in the future and try the D3.5 in my off road cars or 12th scale and hope that I can convince myself it wasn't a bad purchase.

From what I can tell at my local (med.size indoor carpet)...The 3.5 with the turquoise rotor is tops..
I have ran a T.P./high torque and my 3.5 back to back and the 3.5 was a tenth or two faster at lower or equal temps.

I honestly don't care for these motor/esc "pick of the day" threads as I believe they tend to jack up the cost of racing for the average Joe racer (such as myself)...but a good product is a good product.

While do I agree in the practice makes perfect philosophy....This does not always apply to a mid pack racer who has been doing his thing for a few years. Hell..a pro could put a lap on me and half of rc/Tech with a Mabuchi 540. Sometimes you need an edge...and as far as I can tell the 3.5 is it.

I race a D3.5 I tried it with timing and I was unimpressed with the performance but as soon as i moved the timing back to stock position and geared the motor up it was fast, too fast I had to take it out and put on my D3 to get my chassis better. I have gotten my chassis better last race but I am going to wait for the weather to warm up to put it in! Most of the fast guys here race D3.5.

My experience with a D3.5. I ran a Speed Passion compared with the 3.5, my fast laps were the same, but my laps at the end of the run were faster with the D3.5, it also ran about 20-30 degrees cooler. I also used less mah with the 3.5.

Not trying to hijack the thread but it sounds like everyone likes the 3.5 motor, so to "be different" by a little bit why not buy a relabeled one like a Fantom. It will at least have different decals on it but you will be as fast as the others.

So what is the recommended timing with the stock and high torque rotors with the 3.5? Max timing or 0° and gear it up?
