Gp3700 Big!

My LHS got a batch of Pole Position GP3700 yesterday. The #s were incredible, but they were really big! A couple of friends bought them and could not fit them inside their TC3, Pro4, Xray...etc. Sad that they got these new cells and can use them.

I guess, we'll need to get the IB cells instead.

They say that the only chassis it really fits so far is the Yokomo BD because they specifically made it to fit those types of sells

ttso 04-05-2005 10:47 AM

IB3800 is in the same size with GP3700.......:ha: :ha:
(aka, IFMAR new legal size)

The latest batch of RDX's also are machined to accept the larger cells. This is going to be an issue with most racers since if this new cell proves to be superior and is adopted by all matechers as "The" cell it will make all older cars that were designed with the 3300's in mind obsolete. This is going to create a major problem for everyone including the maufactuers.

So your saying pretty much everyone with the older rdx's are going to have a problem fitting the batteries....that just sucks. All I know is that im good with 3300's right now

Not really the Yokomo BD trays are removable so you can get them to fit into most flat chassis (i.e. 415, xray sd, pro4 bla bla bla) out there...They aren't available yet but by the end of the month they should be. The trays are type specific...The ones that come with the kit are for the 3300 size. You will have to buy seperate ones for the 3700 and 3800's.
Hope this solves some of the problems people are about to incure with these new cells.
Hope this helps,
Stephen <><

Now we all have to buy new chassis just to use these cells? Man this really blows.

As far as I know, Corally and Yokomo are the only companies that currently have chassis that are designed for the larger GP3700. The new Yokomo BD has the chassis inserts that allow you to use whichever battery you want. The new Corally RDX's ship with a chassis that will allow you to use the gp3000, but the battery strap tie downs are far enough apart to allow the 3700's to fit. Of couse you will need to do a lot of sanding of the battery slots to get the 3700's to fit low enough in the chassis.

Cars with carbon plate chassis can be modified to fit but the big problem is going to be for the molded chassis like a TC3/4. Even the off-road world is going to have major problems. New chassis will have to be designed and sold to prevent all molded chassis cars from becoming obsolete. I'm sure that the next versions of the cars will have this designed into them but the previous versions will be useless.

I know this is progress in the industry but I belive that they can make a cell that has the increased capacity and still be the size of a 3300 like the IB3600 are.

Corally RDX

The 3700's will fit in the older RDX. This is taken from www.corally.com if you don't want to get the updated chassis and battery brace.

The older RDX chassis and battery straps can be used in combination with GP3700 cells. But with these it is required to reduce the diameter of the battery strap posts and a 3mm washer should be placed under them.

It is tough when a car is designed over 6 months ago and no cells available to test fit. Only thing to do is update as fast as possible and provide solutions.

if the cells are bigger, then in a series they must be longer, taking the yok trays and sloting the chassis of other cars to make them fit would be a nightmare, your deal with added height of the cell on the battery hold downs if not using tape, added length makes the existing slot wont line up.

it easier to have a new chassis milled..

Attention Schumacher Mi2 Owners

Schumacher UK just announced a GP3700 Battery Tray upgrade kit. It contains a new C/F battery tray and strap sized to fit the latest generation GP3700's.

The part number and price will appear in the news section of www.racing-cars.com shortly.

So will these new cells have problems fitting in my Novak Smart Tray?

When is the battery approval date?

I think that these cell will not be legal until 2006?
