I managed to put the layshaft assembly in the wrong way round, so youre not the only one to have made a mistake building one

I got the 3racing chassis that im building it to, and wondered why I couldnt fit the top deck on wasted so much time,lol

Yes, but there is much more you will need.
Check out the contents of 53899 with that kit you will need to get swingshafts. (your's might work) the EVO 5 susp uses a different axle and bearing, there is alot that comes in the kit.

HI Guys,

Has anyone tried the 3racing center pulley for TA05?
It come in a pack of 3 for 16Teeth, 17T & 18T.
It will change the internal ratio from 2.25 to 2.18 to 2 respectively.
What's the effect of doing so???

a lighter suspension system means lower unsprung weight, which will provide better response (ie. Hebiki's comments about precision). but the question is, will you notice a difference, and is it worth the cost?

if you are new to the hobby/novice racer, or running roar 27t stock motor, or tamiya black can/silver can motors, then you probably won't notice as much of a difference. i have both suspension sets and the weight difference is significant. some people say the LWS is more fragile than the standard, which it is, but i have not had any issues.

if you have to choose between alloy shocks and universals vs. the LW suspension, get the shocks/universals for sure. but don't mistake that to mean the LWS is useless, because it certainly isn't!

By the looks of it the grey ones are the kind of cheap inserts you'd get free with some tires (i.e HPI's scale rubber tires, like the Super Radial and X-Patterns). They aren't that great handling-wise, because they aren't stiff enough to support the tire's carcass (you'd end up with the sidewalls flexing and the car being generally unresponsive...well that's what happened to me anyways). Having said that, they're much lighter (and cheaper) so they're better for bashing around with.

The yellow ones are (I think) the "molded round" HPI inserts, where the foam used is much denser and stiffer than the grey ones. They provide much better support for the tires (less sidewall flexing) and generally provide more responsive handling. I prefer this set (I use the X-patterns with the "soft" version of this insert for parking lot racing).

Is the 05R designed for parking lot racing or for carpet?
I wouldnt mind getting one if it was for asphalt...hopefully faster than my 02R too.

The TA05 and the R version work great on carpet or asphalt. Setup involved is a little different but it works great both places and with the plastic tub you don't have to freak out if you scratch it a little on the asphalt.

Whats the weight difference in grams? (please specify if it's the arms, hubs and knuckles only or with all the hardware)

a local racer said his tb02 lost about 40 grams after switching to the lws...i'm skeptical its that much.

i don't have access to a scale at the moment, i'll try to weigh it the next time i'm at the track. but to give you an idea... the bearings are smaller (x8), and the axles are shorter (x4)...its much less metal, not to mention the lighter plastic/molded carbon parts.

can anyone confirm that the nissan calsonic body 51184 fits the ta05 properly? its not listed as a compatible chassis on the parts page so wanted to check before buying
