Question,

What features do you top-speed runners look for in the different speed controls and why?

When I buy another esc for this car it will definitely run 8s, data logging would be cool I guess. XL2 is the most used from what I've seen for over 100mph. The size of the xl2 is insane.

I would check to see if the stock VE speed control can handle 6 cells. If it can Ipanema Top Speed Club member johnracerx just went 128 mph on 6 cells and a pretty inexpensive motor.

Not the fastest of his runs, but impressive none the least. Good way to get started, on the cheap!!

I like the Garman set-up for recording speeds, but the Bushnell gun is good too.
From what I read the stock esc can handle 6s but the motor has a 4s limit. I have a gps and a bushnell radar gun but my wife was saying how much she enjoyed my new gps because she can film with 2 hands. That would be cool if you built speed run car too!

Im the slowest of everyone I think but im running what I had Hpi tork 2650kv on mamba monster on two 3s SMC 6500mah 70c. By all means if you can afford a neu just for speed runs then get one but its not necessary unless your going for a world record.

Thanks for this bit of info. Right now, I am more on a learning/fact finding mission on what you guys are using and doing to hit these insane speeds. The fastest I have ever been is 142mph in an Infiniti Q45 I owned back in 1998, so just trying to imagine a scale car going that fast is amazing to me.

Iím leaning towards the more inexpensive 128 mph 6 cell combination that John tested in the video for right now.

Not having experience driving an R/C car over 100 mph, it seems like a safe way to get accustomed to those kind of speeds. If I can master that set-up, I would most likely step up to an all out 8 cell.

I do think I will get a speed control that can handle 8 cells well from the start, so I wouldnít have to spend the money twice.

Thatís why I appreciate any information I can get about the different features available in speed controls; research time!

I bought these diff gears. http://www.nitrohouse.com/ofna_gt-v2e_hop-ups.html

Then I bought a 34t 8mm bore mod 1 pinion from keshaw designs, im hoping it shows up today or tomorrow. This will replace the factory spur setup on the factory shaft. Ill be trying 34/25.

You have the pro car or the rtr? I just put these new shocks together with 80wt shock oil in all 4 what fluid are you guys running? The 6 hole pistons take some heavy fluid if you dont want the front to scrape when you brake hard. Sexy!

So 13/43 = a diff ratio of about 3.30
Does anyone make a 14T that fits the 43T ring gear?

That 14T would give a diff ratio of about 3.07 for an even higher top-end.
Gotta check into that, since the brushless should have more than enough torque to pull them.

I got the shocks on rcboyz "team c gt8l" for $121 something shipped. These are 16mm dia so you would probably need some spacers to clear the shock towers. If your car is grinding you should thicken the front shock oil or put some external limiters on or raise the ride height by tightening the springs or back off droop screws. I wound up using the rtr front springs and spring perches and 80wt fluid and it still feels a little to soft in front. The front springs that come with the pro shocks are a little to short for my taste. The rear feels perfect, alot better dampening feel with the new springs.
