Tamiya gear diff or Spec R for 416/417
 

I am interested to buy a gear diff for the 416, but it seems i have the choice of buying Spec R or Tamiya Brand. i seem to notice that the tamiya brand is a little cheaper. What i want to know is , are both brands 37T or 38T in pulley size. also which one is more leak free and durable?

Tamiya gear diff is better than Spec R . If you buy a spec r you have to change the rear shaft .

ohh i see, the outdrives are different?

i just bought the tamiya white gear diffs and they are very posh. however i am having trouble tightening the little 4 black screws to close the diff, seems all my drivers dont fit. anyone know what size allen key to use?

Yea, those screws are a weird size. I ended up using my small sizes torx bit.

Other being white in color, that is all I also see being different. There is a upgrade coming around for replacement metal gears soon~!

Thanks JoeyE. Does anyone know what weight of oil does tamiya include on the 9cc bottle given with the gear diff? There are no viscosity markings on the bottle at all !

it is a 1.5mm bit, i had issues at first to find a driver and used imperial drivers, but i think they are poor quality heads on the screws that make a 1.5mm difficult to fit in sometimes with new screws.
