It doesn't have balls on the hinge pins. Just a plastic insert just like the xb4 4wd buggy. Same inserts in fact.

Either way I talked to Alex for a while today and he said its the first ever asphalt car he's had to take steering away from. He said it isn't lacking rear grip it just has a ton of front grip. Chassis is also a bit narrower he said.

That's exciting that they are doing that. It re-enforces the testing I have been doing lately. Our RX4 chassis will have the option of traditional XRAY suspension mounts or the Kyosho style, with balls and plastic inserts. Our chassis is also 85mm, so it is quite a bit narrower. Most of the testing, the cars have increased corner speed and a ton more steering than the traditional T4. I only run about 85% dual rate on the RX4 chassis vs. the T4 where I run 100% and sometimes even extra with our increased steering lock spacers. The other benefit is the arms don't get loose when you hit dots or flappers. The car is much more consistent.

I'll post some pictures over the weekend. Our chassis kit is due in 2-3 weeks. We finalized testing last week.

Oh, and I am certain they will not be able to be retrofitted if they ever make it into production. The orientation of the FR suspension mount and RF is horizontal on the chassis vs vertical.

Glad to see the '14 is finally moving over to the Tamiya/Kyosho style suspension mounts. That was the only thing I wished my T4 had. I'd consider the new 2014 and make my current T4 into a 13.5 car, but the Awesomatix is looking super tempting for 17.5 racing.

Cristian, any word on pricing for your conversion?

I'm really quite excited about the new RSD t4 chassis. I've been needing a new one but wanted to wait and see what their new design looked like.

We will have probably 2 different versions.

A Standard version which will be just the chassis plate, which can be used with your stock equipment and the toe block version which will include all the hardware you need to convert it (Shorter Hinge Pins, Pivot balls, All the inserts for Toe in Ajustment and the chassis.)

The Standard version should come in at around $79.99

The Toe block version should be roughly around $135.00

Oh, the other thing I failed to mention is the conversion takes off around 25g off of the car. The chassis is only a few grams lighter, but the removal of the large screws that go into the suspension holders, plus the aluminum holders and other miscellaneous items add up!

My car, with every single RSD Accessory, CSO layshaft holders, Spec R Top deck center post, the heavy 6900 EA Packs, Reedy 4.5T motor, GRC Fan, front gear diff with spring steel outdrives comes in at around 1340 grams. I have not added weight to it because it balances out perfectly, but it is nice to be that low without trying.

2.25 thickness.

They are slightly thicker than the XRAY which is a 2.2. We found that the 2.25 material with the narrower construction maintains similar weight characteristics and does not lower the weight of the bottom deck as much (only 3-5g) which keeps the cg low.

Also, 2.2 mm is damn near impossible to get.

If there is enough interest, we will consider releasing a 2.0 as well.

However, when run with the Spec R top deck/ post set up, with the captured layshaft and the top deck raised by 0.5 mm the car flexes way more than stock. It runs really nice

What have they done then to get the steering? Apart from the toe blocks and narrower chassis?

What springs are those two cars running? As they seem to have little distance between the collars and end of the thread compared to mine

Why?

I'm only interested in the change if it makes the car even better.

Alex said that was the only changes thus far. The reason for shocks not having the nut run down much is the super tall lrp tires so they run less spring tension to keep the ride height low.

Makes sense, so are they still using the standard t4 shocks and springs?

If they are the insert type, they are just better. They maintain the adjustability, the arms don't get loose, and are lighter. With pivot balls, there is even less suspension stiction. Another added benefit is that upon impact there is less leverage on the chassis from the suspension mount. This will make delaminating the chassis a lot harder to do.

I posted some pics of the chassis on our Facebook page. I will try to get some good studio pics this week. But you can get a clear view of the suspension mounts and the chassis width/ shorty pack compatibility in the pics.
