You don't need to purchase another car. Reedy was one race where the fastest and most consistent drivers did not run XRAY. Heck, Associated swept 13.5. If you go back a few weeks, a VBC Wildfire (A car that most haven't even heard of) won 17.5 at the Nats, followed by XRAY and XRAY. An XRAY won 13.5, followed by ARC and VBC.

All of these cars are capable of winning, it just comes down to setup and driving. There are just too many driving and tuning possibilities to get it right everywhere.

There is no reason to get rid of the T4. I qualified 4th at Reedy in 17.5. The Awesomatix cars were definitely good and they were in good hands. I can't blame the car for my bad performance that weekend at all. One of the biggest problems with the Reedy race is this year you needed to have an endless supply of motors at your fingertips, they were pulling them off the track at 240* in the mains.

I'll stick to the 26mm foams and see if there is a way round it to use 30mm foams (wider hexes etc is the usual method).

I do appreciate that foams are not widely used these days, my local club has to be one of the last clubs in the UK to still enjoy using them for TC.

We can use rubber instead if we want to, but no one at the club has found them to be as fast as foam so it is a waste of time trying to stay competitive on them.

As Sith mentioned previously we are still running foams and while you can run rubber, they are not competitive compared to the foams. We run on a type of industrial carpet in an exhibition centre so can't use any additives. Most guys run 40 on the front and 37 (shore) on the rear. 26mm all round. I was running a T4 with the spool but have since gone done to a gear diff with 100k oil in it. Not much difference in lap times but a bit easier to drive.

IMO the problem with foams and electric motors is that they have to be cut right or if they're too small your motor will heat up too much too quick and not get the full performance of the motor, due to the small tire and if too big it would be just the opposite. Unless you run mod on foams it will be a Pain in the ass to find a sweet or for full performance if you use different motors throughout the day.
Coming from nitro and always cutting tires (1 set=4 tires per qualifier and a set for the main 4sets of tires per race day= $16-20 per set is around $80 just to race before entry fee and fuel) the best thing I did is switch to rubber tires, the cost for tires every weekend can now buy me a new motor and if I chuck it at the end o the day at least I got 4 races out of the motor and not 1 race before I chuck it

How is 4th at Reedy, a "Bad performance"

Seemed every round of qualifying at least 2 motors gave up the ghost
Spec racing is more expensive than mod if 240* motor temps are necessary ?

Sounds like rc racing is going back to the battery/motor game that pushed me out of the hobby back in the late 90s.

4th overall? Good showing IMO
motors coming off at 240 without popping, how did they even get that high and finish a race

It never really went away. Manufacturers just removed all of the numbers which left the consumers to purchase and test more to find the "Magic ones."

For a while it seemed cheap brushless motors/batteries, etc were all competitive. Now we're back to $100 batteries and motors.. Nearly time to exit the hobby again it seems.
