Default Tight belt= bad

Ran the car for the first time on asphalt track.
Half way thru the battery pack the car put on a hard brake and stopped.
It turned out to be a twisted rear belt.

I had followed the manual but it was about three clicks too tight according to the track veterans.

Asphalt, 60F, VTA setup with 21.5T.
Stock Xray asphalt setup.

The car felt like a FWD. The rear was loose coming out of tight turns and I had to get on the throttle with counter steer to keep it from spinning out.

I tried laying the rear shocks down one hole toward the middle - didn't help.
I tried decreasing the rear droop by 1/4 turn - didn't help.

What should I try next?

Not sure what you mean by car handling like FWD. First step is try softer rear springs to tame down the rear. I didn't really like the rear progressive springs. I have tried 2.3 and 2.5 rear springs but I like 2.5 rear the best. The 2.3 caused my car to push too much.

Of course I'm not running VTA though...but those were just some of the things I did to keep the rear end in check. Another thing you can do is take out some screws off from the upper deck to allow more flex.

stock rear spring is good for high grip track, if your local track is not that grippy, use a 2.5 on the rear.

2.7 in front and 2.5 rear xray 450 oil all around is what I had when I had my best run and fastest lap (3/10ths slower than the fastest lap of the day) on carpet.. Today I ran the stock progressive 2.3-2.6 in the rear and 2.5-2.8 progressive up front with xray 400 oil all around and it was perfect all day, at the start of the day it was like ice with little grip if any and I was amazed how the car wasn't all over unless I drove it too hard out of the corner

I had the same problem, fixed it by running rear diff low
Also use 2.7 front 2.5 rear

What kinds of spares should I carry for this car? Belts, arms, steering knuckle, and c hubs?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before,

but the CSO Alu Lightweight Shock Spring Holder do not fit the shock ball joints and the CSO Racing Alu Steeering Arm Xray T4 & T3 2pcs have too much play in the bearings (Get the A Plus or the Original if you want them).

Just a heads up, I have already emailed CSO directly, let's see how they handle this.

Are they hitting your battery or top deck or motor screws?
For the first time since I bought it I'm having this problem but only since I switched to a revtech from a thunder power..
The revtechs rotor is longer than the tp and the flat spot is shorter so the pinions hit the battery or if put on backwards the motor screws or top deck, the only pinions I didn't have the problem with was the CRC ones put on backwards

I have this problem with a TP 17.5 in a T4 in the UK.

On a T3/12 I ran pinions in the 37-40 range with a 72 spur - 48DP.
To get this gearing on a T4 I had to fit a 66 spur then a 37 pinion so that the pinion was small enough to clear the motor screws. The pinion was fitted back to front and still only just clears the belt by a tiny amount.
The real problem here is that as far as I know no one makes narrow pinions in the larger sizes.

Racing on Asphalt 48P would be recommended but I am having trouble finding the right gears for my car.

With 21.5T on pretty open course what FDR should I start from? 4.0? 3.5?
I will need a smaller Spur as well.
Where do you buy smaller spur than 78T 48p or 96T 64p?

RW Racing are almost a standard for aftermarket spurs and pinions in the UK.

Not sure where you can get them in the US, but you want to look for their Xray specific spurs.
