So I thought I was going to test out some emulsion shock caps so I ordered the tamiya 501 x shock caps and turns out they do not thread onto the shock body. Bummer. But I did put in tamiya shock shaft and the tamiya grooved prongs and the shocks feel extremely good now. And I am using the RSS bladders.
Luke, what shock caps were you going to try.

I have a spare set of tops and caps for mine, plastics are bonded to the upper caps, then small hole drilled and tapped and small set screw in them

Yes, all of yours will fit just fine for sure.
I just double checked the math on mine and it appears to be correct.
If you want to do the math the formulas are as follows.
Convert 48P to 64P: (X/1.5*2=Y) where X is the tooth count in 48P and Y is the tooth count in 64P, Example: ( 72/1.5=48, 48*1.5=96 ) So this shows that a 72T spur in 48P is the same size as a 96T spur gear in 64P.
Convert 64P to 48P: (X/2*1.5=Y) where X is the tooth count in 64P and Y is the tooth count in 49P, Example: ( 96/2=48, 48*1.5=72 )
So in my example, 65/35 was the smallest combo that would fit giving a FDR of 3.52 but you could never go smaller than a 35T pinion.
To get the smallest you could use with the 72T spur you simply subtact 65 from 72 which is 7. Then subtract 7 from the pinion size, so 35-7=28 which is the smallest pinion you should be able to run with a 72T spur.
Wow I really hate math and gear ratios. I wasted around $50 USD trying to find the best ratios I could for this car and I've always liked the smallest spur/pinion combo I could get away with as the car always felt more responsive that way.

BTW I am going with the spurs and pinions you suggested. Not having to switch spurs suits me best, for the same reason as yours.

In the past I used 6,500mAh LiPo's.
Now, for this car, I am considering the following mainly because of the weight:
http://www.cs-shop.de/Lipo+7-4V+5400...EGAL+2011-.htm
That is for stock racing SP13.5T+SPCirtix ESC.
Would they be any good, especially as to the 5,400mAh?

Any suggestions as to gear diff oil for the R1? On low to medium grip tarmac/asphalt.
Can this Hudy/XRay info be of any use?
low traction 600/700/800cst
high traction 900/1000/2000cst
softer oil increases rear traction
harder oil increases on power steering

I ran my S1 today at practice before tomorrow's club race and the car was great out of the box. I did move the top of the rear shocks in one hole, but so far that's my only change. I was competitive and turned laps as fast as the top guys. Tomorrow's race should be interesting.

Honestly, the amount of amps your able to pull with the ETS (or any blinky combo) is so few compared to the output of current cells that it makes ZERO difference to performance, unless your running crazy long 10 minute mains! the major difference will be the condition and age of the cells.
Once again, weight really is not an issue, The battery I run is about 270g (MooreSpeed) and I'm still having to put nearly 50g of ballast on the car.
With regard to oils, I just go by feel of the car, start at a base setting of 1000, if the car needs more rotation run thinner, if it needs less rotation run thicker.
My gear diff runs so free infact I'm finding myself running much thicker oils on carpet to balance it out. (up to 2000 now for a large medium traction track)

OK, I just ordered a S1. I've been out of of rc for almost 8 years now! Can you guys give me suggestions on what I should pick up? Speedo, charger, gears. I'll be running on indoor carpet.
thanks....can't wait for Santa (USPS man) to come!!

Currently running in my S1:
Speed Passion Reventon Pro
Speed Passion 5.5R (will have a 17.5 on the way in a bit)
Reedy 60C 5500mAh LiPo
As for a charger, I'm using a Thunder Power TP610C, I'm sure others can recommend some good stuff they have used/currently run
Depends what class you're thinking of racing as to what you'll want to buy. If you are going to run something like blinky 13.5 then you'll probably be better off going over to 64dp gears as it gives you more options for lower FDR's.
You'll probably want to get a few upgrades for the S1 too, roll bars, servo mount, alloy hexes to name a few.

I ran my S1 today for the first time in my club's 17.5 blinky class and took TQ honors. It was amazing to beat guys with the latest sedans from the top manufacturers and I tried not to show how pleased I was today. Amazing value in the S1 and I'm pretty stoked. Can't wait for the next race!

Very nice SteveM. What, if any, hop ups are you using on your S1?
