I have 2 s2 kits being delivered tomorrow! My questions are as follows:
-what size shims should I pick up to take play out of the suspension and drivetrain?
-what's a good starting point for diff oil when running 2 gear diffs?

Thanks!

1million oil in front, 5000 in back
Get all size shims & build suspension with the red alloy ones instead of the kit plastic ones.

Just scored an s2 rolling for a case of beer lol. Basically picked it for parts but its complete. Gonna try hd dif and center support on my prospec.

I really need to get an r2 soon. After I buy.some.1:1 tires me thinks. Just in time for outdoor modified
Hopefully they have an aluminum chassis option out before carpet season or ill definitely make one.
My.prospec is still very flexy with all screws in top plate. Would like more rigid. Though I suppose a 2.5 mm r1 chassis could be an option.

How about i just list off parts I BELIVE are important for any s1/s2 build.

These parts optional if you want swaybars;

SPR-R1H716 Anti Roll bar set 1.1-1.5mm $6.99
SPR-R1H719 Steel Ballstuds $3.99
SPR-R1P306 Turnbuckle ends $1.99
SPR-R1B801 M3x3 setscrew $2.99
SPR-R1A123 Anti Roll Bar Stopper $3.49
I would almost recommened tamiya rear swaybars but the kit they come in has a bunch of bs ball sizes you dont wanna deal with. I run serpent rear swaybars in my r1 and use an extra ballstud in one of the outer arm holes in the lower arms. i do this similarly on the front but its a little less elegant lol.

arm mount upgrade
SPR-R1A110 Aluminum wheel hex 5mm $6.99
SPR-R1H726 Aluminum wheel hex 6mm $6.99
SPR-R1A115 Aluminum Pivot Mount front $7.99
SPR-R1A114 Aluminum Pivot Mount Rear $7.99
SPR-R1A116 Aluminum Split pivot mount $10.99
SPR-R1P307 Suspension mount insert set $3.99 x2

Shims for Pitbox/assembling car with greater precision;
Tamiya 53585 3mm 0.1-0.3mm washers 10pc each $5.99
3Racing 3RAC-SW05 5mm 0.1-0.3mm washers 10pc each $3.99
3Racing 3RAC-WF305/RE Aluminum m3 washer 0.5mm red 10pc $3.49
3Racing 3RAC-WF310/RE Aluminum m3 washer 1mm red 10pc $3.49
3Racing 3RAC-WF320/RE Aluminum m3 washer 2mm red 10pc $3.49

extra things that will make life easier/better
Yeah Racing (PB-001) metal pivot balls $4.49
Tamiya 53601 low friction adjustter $3.99 x2

get some orings for the steering ballstuds to take out slop. one thing id suggest is upgrading to yokomo orings and diaphrams right away and using your stock spec r orings on the ballstuds.. obv NOT on the camber link studs.

YOKYS-7HG $4.49
YOKYS-8HD $4.69

you might even want to upgrade to yokomo shock shafts as well, everything should clip right up. Yokomo springs are common on setup sheets and seem to be pretty consistant. black, blue, maybe pink or yellow. i have two sets of blue but usually run black in the back.

significant upgrades.. you might just get an r2 as all the swaybars and arm mounts are included. you would still need the shims, balls and shock upgrades to make the car pretty good but you get an r1 instead of a highly upgrade s2. i wouldnt waste money trying to upgrade the s2 further though. dont buy aluminum center shaft or hardened spool ect. these are very heavy parts i actually took out of my r1 to make it lighter lol. r2 comes with lightweight rear axles and front p8 style djc so its a fantastic value..

not EVERYTHING on my list is important but it will make your life a ton easier.

how my front bar, 1.4 is mounted, if using stock balls on the arms, consider a 1.5/1.6 which spec r doesnt sell for the r1.

serpent 1.2 rear swaybar mounted wide.

I guess a last thing to remember is to check everything for flatness when assembling. the castings for the bulkheads seem to be tapered so blake was telling me he had to sand them to be flat before assembling the car. its a great car to get your feet wet with, but definitely takes some love to be its best.

one final edit to my super long post, the setup im currently using for touring stock on 100x36ft carpet.
so far im racing blake bell pretty tightly with his s2. he can murder anyone with anything but i seem to be doing alright against him. the car drives super nice, has tons of steering and agreesive turn in, i just need to get a little more mid corner carve out of it. but this setup is what i ran for modified, so its not super perfect for stock, just seems to work well.

ill edit again if i can get the video uploaded from my phone. not liking android so much heh.

I can't remember what color is front or rear, but the spring rates are 2.7 and 2.9.

I found the springs, in the S2 kit to be too long, so you may what to get the 20mm big bore spring set from Spec-R.

Can't imagine you'd need the front mount. Especially if you don't get a second set of split mounts for the front.

See I did read your entire list...

Well, you would need two sets of split mounts lol. An oversight on my part.
The insert system much better though. S1/2 very narrow with no inboard adjustment.
