In my case, the car would be a back-up car for myself and a race spec chassis for my youngest girl (who is able to do some good laps).
Preparing a car isn't a problem, been racing for about 10+ years and i should be able to setup a car correctly.
The car would not be used that much as my TRF418, cause my youngest girl does not have that much opportunity to drive as i do.
Therefor i'm thinking about buying a race spec chassis, but without spending the same amount of cash as on a TRF418 or others.
Over here everybody is driving a yokomo or an Xray or VBC but not so many people do drive this Spec-R brand.

I've been to races where some pilots drive a R1 or a S1 and they all get good results out of it and that's why i've been keeping an eye on this brand for some years now.
Another reason why i do intend to buy a Spec-R chassis is my youngest girl has Red,Fluo pink and white for body colors and it matches the red parts of the car

Every car is different dispite how similar they may seem. I'm sure if you spent some time on the r1 you would get it to do everything your 418 can.
Parts support shouldn't be a problem over there if you don't mind rcmart or specr direct.

Ran the car this way for the first time in a larger regional club race and it can compete just fine. Added metal pivot balls and alum shims, El Cheepo S2 is very decent.

I am still running the stock springs and am considering this as my next upgrade. Which springs is everyone using?

Hey guys I'm interested in the R1 pro spec. How is that car? I will be racing it in USGT class. TQ racing has it for $279.99 so kinda got me interested. Y'all seem to be running the S1 or S2 version which is the lower priced ones correct?

Asphalt or carpet ? Most of the research I've done showed tamiya blue and whites being used a lot and hpi silver.

I have all three R1 Pro Spec, S1 and S2. With some upgrades (sway bars, etc.) the S models run about the same as the R1. In fact, my true cost of the S2 is more like $200 with the parts I want to run.

Oddly, my R1 is my VTA car and I have to add a ton of weight. The S2 is my USGT car and it is overweight. I should switch them.

The R1 is perfect for USGT.

Speaking of kit springs, What are they rated at, compared to the 2.5-2.8 carpet spring kit?

Tamiya set #53440, not sure I've seen any thing else sold in sets, around $15 which isn't bad considering it comes with 4 sets of springs to chose from.

I'm running the S1 with alu bulkheads and suspension mounts, and use Xray springs. Was running gold in rear and silver in front, but have just changed to blue up front to tame the car down a bit, and I ran my best times for ages on Thursday night.

I'm wondering if anyone's ever removed the outer servo mount (stock s1) to achieve the floating servo affect ? The only bad thing I noticed about the idea is the servo mounts only use 1 screw so thinking about ca gluing it to the chassis with the single screw for extra strength to avoid the mount twisting. Any opinions ? Thanks in advance !

Mitamiya. I emailed Spec-R a little while ago and asked that very question. Their reply was short and sweet. There is an R2 on the way but hey can not confirm a release date as yet. I will contact them again shortly and see if we can get an update as we have just finished our race season and I would like to upgrade to a new car before the start of the next season.
