Default help with gear ratios!

i have 2 motors that i use in my car. on is a 15x2 venom fire ball and the other is a standard 540 'silver can' tamiya kit motor.

what sort of final drive would i need for each of these motors?

i'm currently running a 87 spur and 27 pinion that works out to be a 7.03 final drive, but with the 15t motor it has bugger all top end. i havent used the silver can yet,but i will be on the weekend at the track!

what ratios on each motor should i start off with?

it really depends on the track, for 540 I use anything from 4.9 to about 6.5-7

the 540's can be overgeared to buggaree, and live through it, I'e had mine up to 100+ C dozens of times and it seems to be getting stronger, but talk with some front runners in 540 at your track and that will give you a general idea of final drive ratio
