I've said my 2 cents and offered. I still say there needs to be some sort of governing body and I'm not opposed to it being Roar.

All I want to know is who's running who's willing to step up. That's this thread.

I 100% agree... I like ROAR, just feel there is room for improvement from both the membership and ROAR.

#1 re issue rule books not use computer as one.
#2 leave clubs run nat events and pay fees to roar
#3 leave each regional director run his region and report to roar president when problems do occur.
#4 vote in president that has been in trenches for all aspects of our hobby and no what racers need coz with out them no roar.

Just a general observation - when I first joined ROAR over 20 years ago, it cost $25 and I got my ROAR card, a subscription to Revup, an updated rule book and even a sticker sheet. Fast forward now - same cost to sign up, but I don't get anything tangible except a card. Where is all that money going?

To help pay for RMT along with higher entry fee's for nationals. Im sure it also goes to other expenses that ROAR has that have risen over the years. There is a break down somewhere on their site.

Sorry I do not have the same view. Do you think that your $25 today has the same value as $25 as of 20 years ago?

Based on Inflation, the ROAR membership should cost today 40.85... If we do not want to pay more then we need to find things to cut... See: Link

Personally I'm ok with the rule book available in electronic format, just wish it was updated. I know others that like printed... So download it and print it...

I'm one that is ok with a $45 membership, but I want something for it... Make it 50 and send me a t-shirt.... I for one do not expect people to do this on a shoe string... And as we the membership are not supporting ROAR with the proper level of funds, this opens the door for manufactures to give "gift baskets" to subsidize the lack of membership/funds... We the membership have created this animal... And we the membership need to fix it.

You stated that they needed to find places to cut back spending. According to the 2011 budget, they spent $3254 on the website. There's nothing special about ROAR's site that would account for such ridiculous costs. It's a Wordpress site (using a free template, no less..), and a vBulletin forum. Either someone is fudging the budget, or the person in charge of hosting/maintaining ROAR's website is absolutely raping the organization.

The reason you get less for your membership money now is that membership has dwindled since the 80's.

80s
25 x 10,000 = 250,000

Today
25 x 3,000 = 75,000

So then, at the club level, what is it exactly that ROAR does to benefit the racer and/or the track? Also, some of the biggest races that have the most participants such as the birds, Cleveland and Vegas aren't ROAR affiliated.

25 is for insurance, and this is an excellent deal...

Ok... I really was not saying they need to cut back... I was saying that at a rate of 25 membership fee which has not increased in 20 years, the buying power is much less... Membership fees should be in the 40 to 50 range to be equal to the value of $25 at 20 years ago...

Personally I think that membership should be 125.00 but that includes one voucher for a Major ROAR race, regional, super regional or national class. And a t-shirt... I'm willing to pay more, as long as I get something for it... But that just me... I want to give ROAR more funds to work with so they are not operating on a shoe string....
