Airline travel with your RC equipment
I'm planning on taking a couple of trips to race at tracks and was wondering what is the best way to travel with my cars and equipment. How to pack it/etc... I know, no nitro, all electric stuff
Send it ahead?

I think the general concensus is that sending it ahead and having it shipped to a place that recieves UPS packages for you is the safest...
Personally I would just leave the disposables (traction compound, glue, shock oil) at home and plan on buying and trashing the leftovers at the race, so you could fit all of the necessities into one carry-on.... Maybe even plan on purchasing a body and painting it at the track... Then just ship out the batts to a place like mailboxes ect. to recieve it for you.....

I'm planning on going to Atlanta for the TCS race April 30th...
I don't think I could take my "RC tools" in the carry-on...
Shipping is the option I'm looking at right now....
I figure I'd ask in here as there seems to be a lot of racers who go to tracks all around the country....

Some years ago a few of us travelled. We had wooden boxes made, with compartments, draws, etc all to fit our RC equipment. The box in turn fits in a carrier bag.
We have used them on numerous occasions since and in fact I always take the box to the track these days as it has everything I need in it.
I don't know about customs your end but to be safe I give customs a list of all the items I am exporting in the box. They stamp my copy. This makes life alot easier when I return.

Over the last few years I have taken 'limited' equipment with me from UK to Malta to race during my vacation.
I pack the following in a 'carry-on' plastic tool box:
Car
transmitter
Charger
cells
power supply
tyres
The rest (few tools etc) I pack in with the 'hold' luggage.
As yet I have had no problems - customs have never even asked me to open the box!!

It is not that big of a deal. Don't take motor spray or traction compound and you should be OK. Bobby uses a big plasic box that has wheels on the bottom and the lid latches on with a place to put tie wraps to hold the lid on. If they look inside they tape in shut for you.
Follow the rules and you will be fine. They might charge you for overweight though.

Maybe I'll catch ya at the TCS at the RCO. I doubt I'll paint up a new body... so just look for the Orange NSK and/or Altezza. I may even bring my Orange/Silver F201. But I'll mainly be racing GT1 with my EvoIV. The name is Jimmy Mac...
I've heard people only take the essentials with them. Carry on stuff like the radio and car. Baggage the rest like batteries, tools and spare parts. Buy oil, compound, motor spray at the track. I'd like to travel to Cali for the TCS Nationals. But it's undecided yet. This would be a good forum to see how people travel. I've always wondered myself.
As for Atlanta, just send it to the track. Fernando is super friendly. And I'm sure you could just UPS your stuff there. I'd like to make that TCS race. But since it's on a Saturday... it would be very hard for me to make it there. But I'll be at the RCO and Maryland this year.

when i went to Kuala Lumpur, i crammed my SD, Transmitter, Charger, Powersupply, body and batteries into one of those small suitcases, wrapped everything in bubble wrap and slapped on a fragile sticker. checked it in and when it arrived in KL, i found nothing broken
