Anyone here tried any of the floating steering systems (Samix, Spec-R/RSD)?

I thought it was the spring turns rather then the actual rate itself.
Happy to be proven wrong.

The SMJ short springs feel extremely close to the yokomo springs and have the same turns and dimensions.

There is a chart with their actual ratings here
http://smj-rc.com/products-2/springs/1002-2?lang=en

I dont know if the smj springs have been oemd out to yokomo or not, but will give you a ballpark on their ratings.

Those SMJ Spring rates look about right with what they will measure out, but man, those are some stiff springs. Much like with the XRAY car, I would think this car requires softer, not harder rates than the old car.

Personally, I have liked springs in the 13.5-14.5 range with this car on carpet. Like the new silvers, which the car comes with are the rating equivalent of old HPI silvers, it's like a 15.5-16.0lb spring. I don't know, and I just can't believe this is true, but when I look at some of the Factory set ups recently I almost think they are tuning themselves out on carpet. I am sure this is not the case, definitely know what they are doing but I think that the recent performance from them seem to indicate that they are a bit lost and still trying to learn the new platform.

I tried the SMJ 2.8 short on carpet at Banana, car felt way too stiff. The Axon 2.8 felt better and was softer on the spring tester. As far as the 3.0 I didn't bother trying it. Ultimately swapped to Axon 2.7 all around in the main.

I only race on tarmac, so I really cant comment on the springs for carpet use, but it did seem strange that at the last ETS round some drivers were going as hard as the gold springs.

On tarmac so far most of us have stuck with the kit silvers but when the grip came up at my local track recently I found myself going to the pink fronts. But I think I may have been under dampened (425 AE35) rather then under spring. I just haven't had enough time with the new car.

I am probably going to buy the G-Force Spring Rate Checker tool station.

Anyways anyone building their SLF II short shocks with zero rebound? I did not do any drilling of hole in plastic shock cap but with the shaft in and held in when putting on the bladder and capping it I get a slow full rebound.

I can get close but still not 100%, just make sure when you put the bladder on you push down on the center of the bladder with one of your hex drivers as well, as the bladder compresses down a fair bit when the cap is screwed on.

but drilling is the way to go.

Cristian's bladders may be softer as well, but I think there is a greater amount of air in the cap which is also not helping.

I put in the black bladders too. The stock ones these pink silicone ones are too flexy (soft) correct?

If you haven't tried drilling you should give it a shot. Before you do so maybe purchase a extra set of shock caps just in case for any reason your car drove worst with drill caps. Its a small investment with major gains.
