ESC Question

Just a quick question...

Can you use LiPo battery on an old esc for brushed motors? I have the old LRP esc that has no motor limit. Thank you.

Ive ran lipos with older speedo's .. you have to make sure you dont over run your car due to the extra run time ..Doing limited timed runs will be easier on your motors and speedo ...always keep an eye on motor and speedo temp ..

I assume you're talking 2 cell Lipo? Most older ones were designed to operate on 4-8 volts if I remember correctly. Should be safe with a 2 cell.

If you really want to be save get a 5-15 dolla Lipo Cut off added to the ESC and u golden.
Thats what i did to my uncles Vintage Grassopper. running of a an old Novak.
We just added a Lipo Cutt off. He runs it until the lipoid cut off hits, and goes charging.

Old stuff with new Tech =)

There are ones that make noise if you hit the Lipos threshold
Then there are ones that sit in line with battery and ESC and just shut ur RC off
when the lipoid gets too low

These are more expensive and cheaper ones are available you jut have to dig around a little bit.

I have a related question.
I recently purchased a 3 Racing F109 (used), similar to Tamiya's F103 to run on carpet and asphalt in a Formula 1 class at my club.

My question is; what would the best esc for this car be??

My club rules allow for only the Tamiya silver can 540-j johnson motor and up to a 2S LiPo or 6 cell NiMh, I plan on using the 2S LiPo.
