Does anybody believe in drafting at our scale? Feel free to post you opinions.

The only time I have noticed much drafting is at the Veledrome in Dominguez Hills. You could really see your car suck up going into turn 3.

Yes, but I think it's more of an issue on a large oval than anywhere else.

Yeah only on large tracks. I have raced at the INdy Velodrome many times, and drafting does come into play. I have never raced in the 20-car mains, but from watching them it looks like the people that stuck together were usually quite a bit faster. Besides if drafting didnt work in 1/10th scale, why are we so picky about which bodies to use?!?

Drafting in full scale road racing isn't much of a factor because the cars dont stay close to each other in a straight line long enough for it to make a difference; Drafting isnt much of a factor in corners, because cars are a lot slower. With rc, we never stay in a straight line behind one another more than a second or two, even if it looks like we are right behind one another, we are probably a couple inches off center of the car in front of us, this makes a big difference when your trying to draft.

been racing oval for 15 years. never seen drafting really come into play.. ive been everywhere from velo tracks to my home track.. www.triclone.net the ods of two cars being on the exact same driveline long enough for it to work, isnt really that posible..


it may be diff now on the velo's, its been a while since ive been on one..

I assume that when you guys talk about Drafting, you are talking about driving behind another cars slip stream?

I think on larger tracks it is relative. If not for the speed benefit but for messing up the guy ahead of you. I don't mean to hit them, but sometimes getting in their draft when you are in the turns you will take some of the down force off of their back end and make them drive sloppy. You can also mess your self up by the same method. Getting too close takes the air off of your front end and my make you push through the corner. I would say that this is most noticable in a class like stock running on rubber tires where the speeds allow cars to run close.
