Anyone know about battery zappers?
I am interested in zapping about 48 cells for personal use. Could I use the DCX3300 by integy to zap cells that I intend to be unmatched and used as bash packs?

I'm not sure what your intention is, but I am pretty sure that the Integy zapper is more of a maintenance zapper, it won't give you more performance from virgin cells, it just breaks down the crystals that form as you run the cells. |
Yea the integy DCX3300 like the one Im selling (by the way:lol: ) is a maintenence zapper.....while great for keeping your cells fresh and keeping resistance low ,it's a totally different (and less expensive)piece of equipment than an initial cell zapper that is meant to be used on cells "just" for their initial zapping......the DCX3300 at a maximum of 90 volts won't have enough of an effect to do an initial cell zapping.......

What kind of zapper would you get?
|
If you are going to just use them to bash with, I wouldn't spend the money on a zapper. The money you want to spend on a zapper you could have bought some better matched cells.
A real zapper (not the Integy zapper) is going to cost over $500. |
Whats a real zapper?
If 90v is too little, what is the correct V for initial cell zapping? Just curious |
Lets say I were willing to spend $400-500, which one would you get?
|
I don't know of an intial cell zapper bing sold. Most companies that use them have constructed there own based on their own knowledge of electronics and what they believe the correct process of zapping should be. I have heard tht some of the zappers out there have cost these companies upwards of $10,00 to construct. Most companies guard the construction of their cell zappers since they have invested so much time and money into their unique process.

The only one I have ever seen in operation has capacitors the size of footballs and dims the lights when its turned on!

How is the $550 one from integy?
|
My question is what is your intended purpose? Are you trying to make basher packs, race packs, trying to save a little dough?
|
I am trying to sell bash packs and maybe eventually matched packs, but just locally.
|
As far as bash packs, just assemble them and go. Without a matcher to give you all the data from the discharge cycle of the cell, you wont be able to tell (and neither will your customers) that the zapping did any good.
As far as matching you will need at least one turbo matcher and probably 2 cases just to begin matching. This small quantity wont guarantee you get numbers close enough to really be considered a "matched pack". |
I think what I'll do is zap them using the integy zapper. I talked to someone from Team Scream, my current sponsorer, and they said that their zapper was custom made and cost $1500. In the future I could probabely afford this, but I don't know who to get a zapper from...

custom made by who? does anyone know the process that most matchers use? how many cycles, when do they zap, rest betwen cycles etc etc...
